There are "death panels" they are run by the health insurance companies and they dole out their decisions on who can live or die all the time, all in the name of profit.

Health care rationing under a socialized system is real. I know because I'm living it.
My father was booted out of the hospital on Tuesday because he reached an arbitrarily predetermined 4 week limit. When we got him home, he was unable to walk unassisted, he couldn't talk in complete sentences and he didn't even have the strength to cross the ten feet between his bed and the toilet. I woke up to find him lying on the floor next to his bed thursday morning. I called the ambulance and took him back to the hospital.
Since thursday afternoon, they've pumped two units of packed red cells into him.
Here's one of Alberta Health's top officials (he makes 500k per year) responding to questions from journalists:
do you disagree with insurance companies deciding that a young person in good health is a better candidate for a kidney transplant than an old man who smokes and drinks?
what if the hospital decides that the kid should get the transplant before the old guy. is that evil to you?

yes they are...and they're doing so in the context of (and I'm paraphrasing) "Krugman endorses Death Panels...well, yeah...so what!? We need some sort of Death Panel process anyway whether it be physicians, etc."

If deciding what care to cover is a "death panel" then Republicans support death panels; They just want the death panel to kill everybody by paying for nothing.
Much chemotherapy extends life only a small amount, and the patient is as sick as a dog. Costs tens of thousands of dollars, for a couple additional weeks of illness. Not prolonging live, merely drawing out the death. Not a rational cost/benefit result. I'd say the death panels ought to start there. Then move on to transplants.
Organ donation boards decide who are better candidates for organ transplant. They often pass over older folks and folks who are alchoholic, smokers, etc.
It makes sense. A young kid in great shape should get a transplant before an old guy who smokes and drinks.
Its called cost/benefit analysis. Its called common sense.
And you can easily generalize every single socialized health care system in the world, no matter how different they may be, with your individual experience in a lightly populated Canadian province.
I wasn't generalizing all the worlds health care programs. I was showing that the phenomenon of rationing is real. And that there is evidence to support Palins predictions that rationing is a possible outcome.
