Paul Krugman endorses Death Panels

"In a roundtable discussion on ABC's "This Week," the New York Times columnist said of what recently came out of the president's deficit commission: "Some years down the pike, we're going to get the real solution, which is going to be a combination of death panels and sales taxes. "Medicare is going to have to decide what it's going to pay for," Krugman said. "And at least for starters, it's going to have to decide which medical procedures are not effective at all and should not be paid for at all. In other words, (the deficit commission) should have endorsed the panel that was part of the health care reform."


He went to clarify:




"health care costs will have to be controlled, which will surely require having Medicare and Medicaid decide what they're willing to pay for — not really death panels, of course, but consideration of medical effectiveness and, at some point, how much we're willing to spend for extreme care."

That sounds more like not covering things like homeopathy, acupuncture, and other woo forms of treatment from the outset rather than the sort of thing the death panels were supposed to be about.

Health care rationing under a socialized system is real. I know because I'm living it.

My father was booted out of the hospital on Tuesday because he reached an arbitrarily predetermined 4 week limit. When we got him home, he was unable to walk unassisted, he couldn't talk in complete sentences and he didn't even have the strength to cross the ten feet between his bed and the toilet. I woke up to find him lying on the floor next to his bed thursday morning. I called the ambulance and took him back to the hospital.

Since thursday afternoon, they've pumped two units of packed red cells into him.

Also this week, Dr. Raj Sherman, a member of Albertas provincial legislature who moonlights on weekends as an ER doctor was removed from the Conservative party caucus and now sits as an independent after refusing to apologize for saying Albertas health care system was broken.

This is what Obamacare will look like 20 years from now.

Well, there are two problems with that excuse:

1, Nobody "above" is agreeing with him, and
2, That still wouldn't equate to "The Left."

We alrerady have death panels, but they are not based on medical science. They are made up of actuaries whose main concern id whether the pay-outs will ever be off-set by premiums recieved.

I like the idea of a government official with a medical background who only looks at whether there is a point in the procedure, rather than how much it will cost.
Obama already showed us an example of what he meant. Why did the doctors decide that his grandmother needed hip replacement surgery while she was already terminally ill from cancer and probably not much into walking any great distance anymore.

And you can easily generalize every single socialized health care system in the world, no matter how different they may be, with your individual experience in a lightly populated Canadian province.
