I gave some more money to Obama yesterday to give the campaign the tools to counter the distortions in Palin's speech. I hope that they use it wisely... we haven't seen much fighting back from Obama yet.
I, for one, have to agree with Noonan-- it's over for McCain. Even though she will energize a lot of the base, independents in swing states will consider the scenario of "President Palin" for a second and a half, and then pull the other lever.
We shall see, shant we? The debates are going to be memorable, and should be fun to watch. Do you think that the debates will affect the polls significantly?
Bush lost the debates both in 2000 and 2004 but still won the election, at least in 2004 (sometimes I wish life were more like The West Wing, in which Bartlett's trouncing of Ritchie in the debates led to his re-election).
It's a state-by-state election. Getting out the vote in the swing states will determine who wins, and I think Obama's organization is better on that front.
ETA: Here's my prediction. Palin helps McCain win the western swing states and brings out the evangelicals in southwestern Ohio. McCain wins all his states plus Virginia and Florida (Palin's church says that terrorists acts in Israel is God's retribution for not accepting Jesus as the Messiah.)
Final Electoral College, Obama 304, McCain 234.
