Funny thing is, she couldn't fill the seats in that arena...

Meme to RNC; Buy people to fill the seats...maybe get some homeless
minorities.

Pretty good indication that most liberals realized this was a great speech and that Obama's going to need all the help he can get.

The "speech" she didn't write...was grade USDA Red Meat for the morons on the floor...the nosebleed seats were empty.

Sure, the Caribou Barbie can read a teleprompter, and I, like many US men would like to have a "monica" moment with her.

She will enjoy her retirement in Wasilla.

Or, she excited the base of both parties. Her type of speech last night is a double edged sword. It's locker room bulletin board kind of material. For every action, there is an equal ... oh, you know what I mean. :D

Per David Bender on Air America radio, it is now $10M.

People realized what the GOP is trying to sell us and screamed "OH NO!"

It is not that we realize that McSame has picked a winner. It is that people have realized what the consequences of losing would be.

I love how you read the weakness in Democrats' minds no matter how they respond.

Which would mean McCain won. Which means exactly the same thing.

I'm waiting to see a good, logical and substantive rationale for why this increase in donations should be seen as anything other than people on the left feeling threatend. Why in the world would anyone feel a need to donate if they didn't feel any threat at all?

This really is a helluva spin zone.

I like how this is being brought up again and again on CNN and MSNBC. Which politicians are writing their own speeches again? It's as if she is the first person to ever have a speech written for her.

Also the Palin speech drew only about a million less viewers than the Obama speech. I'd say it was successful for both sides.

What would a downturn in contributions have indicated? That liberals realize it's a lost cause?

Uh huh. You suppose the McCain camp is pleased with this development then? I'm betting the GOP was counting on a big push in donations after the speech. Well, yes and no.

Maybe they figure Palin can just extort some more money from the oil companies to pay their campaign bills.

He'll be even happier when we add another 20 million tonight then!

And imagine how happy he will become when we can outspend him 5 to one between now and the election!!!

You could think of the motivation as a combination of two factors: X (probability of GOP victory) times Y (negative impact of GOP victory). You're being disagreed with because they think Y has increased and they think you (collectively) mean X has increased (whether you actually mean this is ambiguous).

Oh, I don't know..... maybe Barack Obama perhaps?

Obama takes an unusually hands-on approach to his speech writing, more so than most politicians. His best writing time comes late at night when he's all alone, scribbling on yellow legal pads. He then logs these thoughts into his laptop, editing as he goes along.

Pretty funny that the Palin speech raised more money for Obama than it did for her own party....

Did it actually raise more for Obama than McCain? I haven't seen the numbers from the McCain camp - which, now that I think about it, indicates to me that they don't want to release the numbers publicly because it would be embarrassing.

Think about it. If Obama raises $10M on the Palin speech and McCain raised $20M, then wouldn't the McCain camp brag about it?

I think them not bragging (or reporting it at all) says that they pulled in either the same amount or, sadly, less than Obama.

ETA: I see that David Wong pointed out that Obama out-raised McCain on this by 10-to-1. No wonder McCain's camp is keeping mum about it - I would too after getting so pwned.
