Palin not running.

Agreed. I think if Powell had not been so leary of the process of electioneering, we could have had our first black POTUS 8 years earlier, and he would have been a Republican.
I think he just didn't want the job.

(Oh, and it's "leery". Timothy Leary was an LSD advocate. Powell was not. You must be thinking of Bachmann.)

Maybe. Or maybe he wouldn't have been nominated. Or maybe he wouldn't have done well during the spectacle that is campaigning for President. Hard to say.

Not for fun. That's a disgusting link. I'm certainly no Palin fan but calling her a "skank" and saying she's coke-addled is way, way over the top. There's no need for such smears against her ... or anybody else, for that matter. I suggest you keep your vitriol for Oz politics.

So I take it you stopped reading after the first paragraph. But then it seems that hyperbole isn't your strong point.

And is that last sentence a "get out of this thread you non-American"?

Funny how only after the DNC runs Obama and Hillary (both of whom did/would have beaten the GOP candidate), the GOP suddenly finds a black guy and a bunch of women to run in 2012.

I bet, if the DNC ran a gay for President, four years later the GOP's entire slate would be Drag Queens.

In early August my wife and I took a cruise up the inside passage, stopping at Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan. One thing that was remarkable was that, in all of these cities, Palin was extremely unpopular. Apparently, while she was governor, she tried to govern from her home town of Wasilla, rather than moving to the governor's mansion in Juneau. Then, of course, after losing in the 2008 presidential election, she quit in mid term to further her own ambitions. Now, she's quitting the Republican presidential race. While that might be a wise decision, she seems more adept at quitting than at much of anything else.

So, she made the decision after much prayer and serious consideration.
Does that mean she is getting close to realising that prayer actually doesn't work?
