Palin Goes Rogue on Vegans

A year after the election, the Palin pummeling pip-squeaks still cling to these fabricated quotes. No matter how many times they are debunked as eminating from her, they will continue to live on like the woo of the Twin Towers and WTC7 free fall collapses.

Equally amazing was the number of liberal blockheads who actually believed and referenced Jane Gandolfano (spelling???) as SP. Which exposes their stupidity but the con played into their pre existing prejudices nicely.

So I think although it's one of the most intense orchestrated progressive smear campaigns in the last decade, it is also the most interesting.

Vegans need to get a sense of humor. And a bacon cheeseburger.

Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week. And don't try the veal, it's made from baby sheep.

I have cattle I bleed periodically, like the Masai n Africa. I don't kill them, or even hurt them, nor do I eat meat. I consider myself a vegan. Vegans can drink fresh blood. They can even stash their own blood for later consumption.

Vegan chicks can swallow.

Coming from the guy who sees almost any strong disagreement or fun-poking as a very deep and hateful personal insult, this is highly ironic. ;) Oh, but that's okay, they'd just be uptight... unlike you, right? :)

That's a fair point, I'll grant you. Maybe I see it because, as the old saying goes, you hate when you see in others the things you hate in yourself.

I grant I'm uptight. But does that mean that no vegetarians or vegans are uptight? Am I incapable of judging them as uptight, because I also am uptight?

You are turning the subject away from the matter at hand, and onto me personally. Seemingly, to discredit what I said. I believe that is a fallacy.

But I still find it hard to understand how offering a salad with a folksy joke about animals being made of meat is in any way offensive. My confusing UC as calling me the Comic Book Guy (for example)... that is different. That would be meant as a direct insult. If it had been directed to me, I would have been right to feel at least a little bit as though he'd taken a shot at me. Albeit, a minor one. But a shot, all the same. How this silly joke, which would clearly be meant in a disarming manner, is comparable.. I don't get it.

But I'm inclined to agree with Phrost on this:

The level of seething bile against this woman is astounding... and hilarious.

But come on, if she said it as a joke?

Telling a dumb, folksy joke is "lecturing on the validity of their beliefs"? It couldn't even possibly be seen as an attempt to disarm the situation a bit with some playfull humor? Again, assuming that is all she said, and it continued on with any further mention of the subject?

I would think a person would be more insulted by the stupidity of the joke itself, than they would think "she's attacking my vegan beliefs!!". I can totally see how this (if it even would ever happen) could play out in a friendly and laughing manner (or at least polite laughter with odd glances). At least amongst people who aren't extremely uptight. :)

Well yes but I am sure the next time someone makes a joke about the Wasilla Wunderkind you will be back to your trademarked "I'm outraged!" shtick.
And don't try the veal, it's made from baby sheep.

Cow. Baby cow. Remember? They even changed the name of it to Tortured Murdered Baby Cow.

Now, how does this change how Matt Dillon, and others in this thread, believed the fabricated quote that was erronesouly attributed to Palin herself?

Dillon or Damon? And if Dillon, the Gunsmoke guy or the actor?

I think that name must be wrong mhaze as this thread is the only result in Google for it. Are you sure you aren't somehow melding James Gandolfini with Tina Fey? And if you meant Tina some of her act was directly quoting Palin's own words cos they were just that funny so there is no need for confusion.
As far as being a smear campaign, why would anyone on the left bother? Her and McCain seemed to be at each others throats for half the campaign and she gets plenty of flak from conservatives now.

:)

Ah well. . . I'm a vegetarian anyway!
per my previous post, I consider myself a humanitarian.

On a more serious note, many restaurants won't serve steaks and hamburgers "rare" for fear of giving a patron one type or another of food borne illness--a position that has nothing to do with taste or texture.

I am well aware of that. My position is that such foodborne illnesses can be avoided with properly hygenic handling of the meat prior to cooking. If a restaurant is not secure enough in thier own such standards to feel comfortable serving meat rare or medium rare, I stop eating there.* I have stopped patronizing several restaurants for this very reason. (ok, in fairness, I am no longer a patron of said restaurants, I patronize them ever chance I get)

* applies only to sit-down restaurants. I do not expect a $1 hamburger from BK or McDonalds to meet the same standards as a restaurtant that charges $10 or more for a steak.

"I can see Russia from my front porch" was probably the most damaging excerpt. The original was something like "you can actually see Russia from a certain point in Alaska." Quite a difference.

I have to say I admire Cicero in this thread. It's gotta be tough defending Palin. Hang in there buddy.

mhaze is just a poseur here.

It's only tough because some people are absolutely irrational in their hatred of her. It shouldn't be anywhere near this big of a deal. But it keeps being made into one. And not by people on the right.

There is an entire semester of psychology going on with regards to the subject of the left and Sarah Palin.

What's irrational is assuming hatred everytime someone states an opinion on her abilities or motivations. Projection, maybe?

That's pretty much par for the course for any political figure. You see threads here with "irrational hatred" of George Bush, Barak Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Lieberman... really the list goes on. Politics is polarizing that way. But really, there are a whole lot of "middle ground" people here. Though I shudder at the thought of Sarah Palin having any real power, my first comment in this thread was to dismiss this criticism of her as unimportant. Other left-of-center people here have made similar comments. It's not irrational hatred. It's rational (if partisan) dislike for her positions.

Yeah, and the right and Ted Kennedy and any number of other natural antagonists. Why do you think there are such terms as <fill in the politician of your choice> Derangement Syndrome?

It would be a fallacy if I had made it into an argument, but all I did was pointing out the irony.

Right, it was Tina Fey. Which I refer to, that progressives exhibited progressively progressive stupidity in actually believing the Tina Fey act, often with slightly changed words and syntax, was in fact SP.

....As far as being a smear campaign, why would anyone on the left bother? ...
This is the curious fact that we discuss. What's your opinion?

Let's face it. Sarah is playing to her audience. People who hate her are going to be offended by anything and everything she says. She's not going to lose a single one of her supporters by making this joke. The real joke is on the people who harp on trivial stuff like this rather than paying attention to her policy positions. (She does have policy positions in the book, right?)

Fact is Sarah Palin is like Obama in one regard: They are both individuals that people on the other side love to hate.

As far as being a smear campaign, why would anyone on the left bother? Her and McCain seemed to be at each others throats for half the campaign and she gets plenty of flak from conservatives now.

I would not call it a smear campaign, but a lot of people on the left do seem to go berserk if the mere name Sarah Palin is mentioned, like a lot of people on the right go berserk if the mere name Barak Obama is mentioned.
I think Palin is often an idiot and not qualified to be Dog Catcher. That said ,there is awful lot of foaming on the mouth around here at ANYTHING she says or does, no matter how insignificent.
And ,yes, there are such things as Militant Vegans, and they can be very obnoxious in their self righteous attitude toward anybody who disagrees with their views. We have a couple of them right here.

Is that true? In that case, what a savage. I have avoided piling on to this point in many of the Palin threads, but this really gets under my skin.
RANT! Most game (and cuts of beef) should be served as close to rare as possible otherwise it gets really tough and tasteless. There is no option on this. If you have another opinion, you are wrong. Makes me wonder if she eats what she kills.

Daredelvis

Good restaurants have a little tactic they call "Saving for Well Done". They take cuts of meat that are not quite up to snuff as far as quality goes, and put them aside for people who order their meat "Well Done", since the feeling of most chefs is that somebody who likes their meat Well Done does not appreciate good meat anyway, and can be satisfied with an inferior cut that a real meat lover would object to.

This is one of those "you aren't a mindreader" moments for me. Where people act and speak in one manner, you suggest that they think something or other based on it, and then they accuse you of being a mind-reader, or projecting, or creating strawmen.

I'm sorry guy, but when people say vicious and hateful things, it's pretty easy to conclude that they really do not like the target of their ire. I wasn't suggesting it of every single dissenter. If I came off that way, it was not intended, and I'll apologize.

Fair enough Tricky. But I will say, as I often say to these kinds of arguments, the fact that it goes both ways isn't really relevant to whether it's right or wrong. I don't personally share those feelings towards Kennedy either.

I really don't understand why some subjects and some people cause other people to get into such a mad frenzy about it. From either side of the isle. Why is it so important? People have been whipped into a frenzy by others on their own side for so long, that they are now zealots. And a world where zealots vs zealots is the only choice, is a world that sucks in the biggest possible way.

I'll concede there are a few subjects worthy of getting angry about. But people get angry over the tiniest differences anymore. It's gotten out of hand.

While I may not be perfect about it, and can be hypocritical about my message at times, I still stand by it. The best thing we can do is find ways to lower this mania as much as possible and get people thinking, instead of feeling. I hate the idea of a world so divided such as it is these days. I think it could genuinely lead to war some day, perhaps the biggest of them all.

We have to come together. We have to learn to recognize that not every single thing the other side believes is evil, and not every single thing that we believe is correct. We have to lower the drama by a factor of about 10,000.

It would be a fallacy if I had made it into an argument, but all I did was pointing out the irony.

Fair enough. I admit, I'm often contradictory. I'm often hypocritical. I'm often insecure.. overly sensitive.. obnoxious.. condescending.. insert negative adjective here.

I'm human, I make mistakes. If you felt a need to knock me down a notch or something, whatever. You got it. I submit.

Heh, ya, that is pretty good. That is probably how things would shake up at my family Thanksgiving at my maternal Grandmothers house. Everyone on my Mothers side is quite strongly Democrat, and hate Bush and Palin with a passion. Only myself, my brother, and one Uncle (an in-law) are conservative. And we keep our mouths SHUT.

Skeptigirl has a thread about an Alaskan island that's right next to a Russian island. That might be what Palin was talking about.

Has anyone here had a chance to eat Kangaroo?

I have a buddy who has a yearly BBQ event where he selects an exotic meat (we are in Canada).

It was 'roo this year, and holy crap, that was like beef mixed with butter. SO AWESOME!

crazy expensive though...

and yes, my gf's family ALL eat their steaks well done or medium well. Some aversion to the juices and paranoia of them I think.

We always go medium rare and look down on them for their awful taste. lol

I've eaten it tar tar. It's delicious.
