Palin Goes Rogue on Vegans

De gustibus non est disputandum.

I think it's difficult to make a case that a value judgment given as such is "wrong".

What value judgement? Anybody who disagrees with me is clearly deficient in properly processing the taste and texture of meat and therefore is horribly confused about the quality of the meat that they are consuming.

Fact? Where did you get this? unbearablebobness.typepad.com ? What does YEC have to do with Damon falling for a hoax, and those on the JREF who share Damon's intellectual curiosity about this quote?

Palin thinks God is behind all evolution. Other than that, do you have any direct quotes from Palin where she says the world was created in 7 days and is only 5,000 or 10,000 years old?
They don't. The only thing they have is a claim from a far left blogger from 1997.

This guy, whose name I've forgot, worked somewhere Palin ran across him, claims that Palin made some comment (or may have been a joke) ...

about human footprints in the fossil record from dinosaurs.

BY THE WAY: The only way to deal with veganizoa is to invite them over for dinner and have big, medium rare, sizzling steaks served along with some rabbit food.

It's so much fun to watch the combination of disgust and hunger.

The level of seething bile against this woman is astounding... and hilarious.

:jaw-dropp What have you done?! Don't you know what happened last time that pic was posted here?

:runaway

I like this one.

I don't know about the Young Earth part, but she is definitely a Creationist.

This is from the Christian Science monitor (the first result on a Google of the words Palin and evolution):
Page 217 of “Going Rogue” recounts a conversation between her and McCain aides Mark Salter and Steve Schmidt, who at the time were vetting Palin as a potential running mate for McCain.

[Schmidt] knew my position: I believed in the evidence for microevolution – that geologic and species change occurs incrementally over time. But I didn’t believe in the theory that human beings – thinking, loving beings – originated from fish that sprouted legs and crawled out of the sea. Or that human beings began as single-celled organisms that developed into monkeys who eventually swung down from trees; I believed we came about through a random process, but were created by God.

“But your dad’s a science teacher,” Schmidt objected.

“Yes.”

“Then you know that science proves evolution,” added Schmidt.

“Parts of evolution,” I said.

“But I believe that God created us and also that He can create an evolutionary process that allows species to change and adapt.”

Schmidt winced and raised his eyebrows. In the dim light, his sunglasses shifted atop his head. I had just dared to mention the C-word: creationism. But I felt I was on solid factual ground.
Linky.

"Micro-evolution" is a term invented by the Creationists who attempt to criticize the theory of evolution by arguing against their own misunderstandings of science.

Elsewhere, Palin has advocated teaching both Creationism and evolution in public school science classes. This is also a Creationist position.

And this thread is a fabulous example of how "militant" vegans are compared to the controversy free omnivores we have gracing this forum. Glad to know how welcome you make guests in your homes.

As I said earlier, being a vindictive ass is not a virtue.

:)

Ah well. . . I'm a vegetarian anyway!

On a more serious note, many restaurants won't serve steaks and hamburgers "rare" for fear of giving a patron one type or another of food borne illness--a position that has nothing to do with taste or texture.

Actually, microevolution is not exclusively a creationist term. It's just misused by several creationists.

It's a joke?

The twist is that she appears to think this is a joke suitable for vegans she has in her home as guests. Classy :)

I wonder how she treats people on any other diet that differs from hers. Does she make tasteless and crude (so to speak) jokes about orthodox Jews who don't eat pork?

But I suppose she just would never have such people (or vegans) in her home as guests. . . ever.

I admit to having seduced three vegans to the pleasures of roasted slabs of flesh.

I agree with Tricky, it was a joke. That said, I would have more class than making that kind of joke to a vegetarian guest I'd be having, UNLESS it's someone I know really well and I know s/he would get a chuckle out of it. It's a little rude to make fun of your guests, no? Then again I rarely never have guests except friends and immediate family. *shrugs*

But come on, if she said it as a joke?

Assume for a moment, she actually prepares them a very nice salad, and then gives it to them, and without any other form of preaching, just to "lighten the mood", she tells this very (admittedly stupid) joke. Is that so insensitive? ...
At least amongst people who aren't extremely uptight. :)

Coming from the guy who sees almost any strong disagreement or fun-poking as a very deep and hateful personal insult, this is highly ironic. ;) Oh, but that's okay, they'd just be uptight... unlike you, right? :)

I'm reminded of this:

I love that pic. :D

Is that true? In that case, what a savage. I have avoided piling on to this point in many of the Palin threads, but this really gets under my skin. ... There is no option on this. If you have another opinion, you are wrong.
DAMN RIGHT. I cannot fathom people who eat well-done steaks. Even medium is too tough. Medium rare is acceptable but still not as good as RARE.

... I want steak now.

Has anyone here had a chance to eat Kangaroo?
It was 'roo this year, and holy crap, that was like beef mixed with butter. SO AWESOME!
I ate some kangaroo in... Berlin, Germany, of all places, an Australian restaurant. It was great! Beef mixed with butter sounds like an grossly fattening deliciously apt description.

You don't go around blantantly insulting people who happen to not agree with you and then expect to win them over to your side.

Aren't vegans usually too anemic to vote?

Has anyone here had a chance to eat Kangaroo?

Its not too expensive in Australia. I've also had it in sausages, on pizzas and (at a chinese restaurant) served sizzling with black bean sauce.

I did say that Palin did say she thinks God is behind all evolution. This is not in dispute.

As far as the "Young Earth part," it is very easy to know since they believe the world was created in 7 days and is only 5,000 or 10,000 years old. Since Palin does not subscribe to this belief, she could not be a YEC. Of course that isn't going to get in the way of GreyIce claiming she is.

Now, how does this change how Matt Dillon, and others in this thread, believed the fabricated quote that was erronesouly attributed to Palin herself?

There was before the election, and apparently now, something of an unusual number of fabricated quotes attributed to and fervently believed to be from Palin.

Quite curious.

A year after the election, the Palin pummeling pip-squeaks still cling to these fabricated quotes. No matter how many times they are debunked as eminating from her, they will continue to live on like the woo of the Twin Towers and WTC7 free fall collapses.
