Palin Goes Rogue on Vegans

As an omnivore, I'm surprised at Palin being a carnivore.

So, she recycles jokes about vegans. Vegans actually have it coming, as Whiplash already remarked.

BTW isn't the 'animals made of meat' joke originally from Homer Simpson?

Gamara is really neat -- he is made of turtle meat! (MST3K)

One of the reasons that Palin and rational people are at odds these days is that she seems to take the rapture-ready position that we are allowed to and should just utilize every one of God's critters to stuff our stomaches (especially if the people who want to stuff themselves with dead flesh are willing to pay good money to go to Alaska to off Bami's mama.)

It is also an article of faith on the right that public lands should be utilized to maximize ecconomic returns to the people, and that that must include grazing cattle on every acre that can sustain them.

She thus has no time for people who think it better to grow teff to make injerra to feed twenty people, rather than to use it to make hay to feed cattle to feed five people.

Some people are vegan for religious reasons, some for health reasons, some for ethical or aesthetic reasons.

She makes a mockery of all of them.

Insensitive is the nicest thing I would call her.

While I think the outrage is a little overblown, what you say here does help underline one of many ways that she's politically inept. You don't go around blantantly insulting people who happen to not agree with you and then expect to win them over to your side. Her primary usefulness to the McCain campaign was to encourage the base to support McCain. As I said then, if you're that far along into a race and you're still worried about your base, you've lost already. Now that this fact might be clear to the GOP, Palin now has no function at all unless she can figure out how to appeal to more people. This book doesn't help her at all with that.

Perhaps we all agree that it is an old joke. What I would like to know is, do you think there is a possibility that Palin doesn't know it is an old joke, and actually thinks it is a good argument? After all, she wouldn't know a good argument if it bit her in her medium-rare.

I think it's definately intended as a joke. That her serious arguements are often also indistinguishable from jokes is just a coincidence.

Is that a foot turkey avatar? My five-year-old has been cranking out hand turkeys like Andy Warhol lately.

Come on, dude! That would imply that she's as dumb as a sack of balsa wood slegeham.....er....wait a minute.

Right now she is campaigning to win the hearts of Republicans. Her opposition is other Republicans, not Democrats. In fact, a way to set herself apart and ahead of her Republican competition is to show how much she pisses off Democrats and gets them riled up.

Also, the whole hunting, killing, meat eating meme is trying to show the Republican base what kind of man she really is. ;)

Matt Damon got it exactly right when he said her candidacy was like a bad Disney movie. The hockey mom from Wasilla becomes President!
Palin to a room full of suits: "Oh, I know we can balance the budget. It's just like goin' to the grocery n' spendin' on whatchya need. Cut coupons, buy in bulk, get things that are on sale."

Had to imagine the dearth of quotes about Palin that one would actually refer to Matt Damon as an authority on anything more substantive than whitening toothpaste.

“It’s better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody.” M.D.

"do the actuary tables and there's a one out of three chance, if not more, that McCain doesn't survive his first term..." M.D.

"I need to know if she really thinks dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago, that's an important...I want to know that. I really do. Because she's going to have the nuclear codes. I want to know if she thinks dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago. Or if she banned books or tried to ban books. We can't have that." M.D.

Since I agree with these quotes, it doesn't really deflect from my opinion of Matt Damon.

ah, not just ANY foot turkey, but a Gimlin Cast Big Foot Turkey.

Happy Thanksgiving! :)

This thread reminds me of my favorite Vegetarian joke (yes as old as the ones Ms. Palin told in her book)

'If Vegetarians only eat vegatables, what do Humanitarians eat?'

I'm reminded of this:

He's an alright actor. Never met the guy.

Well, people in this forum routinely form opinions of people they have never met. Based on Damon's public utterances, he does not impress one as being any more gnomic than Palin.
