Merged Pakistan MP murdered for opposing blasphemy laws

And is there any remote chance of that happening? Is there one jurisdiction anywhere in the United States, ONE, that is proposing or has on the books anything resembling or based on Sharia law?

How do you feel about those in this country who would use Leviticus or other Biblically based laws for the basis of our law? Are you similarly worried? If not, why not?

Well, Sharia is being proposed as an alternate legal framework in Britain:-

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7232661.stm

No-one is suggesting a legal system based on fundamentalist Christianity would be better- Rather that ANY theocratic legal system is outdated and evil:- BUT the most Christian Nation on Earth has legal protection against Religious law- NONE of the most powerful Muslim nations have like-wise.

That's a two year old article talking about the speculation of the Arch Bishop of Canterbury. Is there a national movement to adopt Sharia law that has any legs or legitimacy in Parliment? In the regions or a major city? Where in England today is Sharia law in any form enforced? Just asking...

The bottom line is that it isn't being proposed seriously anywhere in the United States...so the speculation about it sweeping our freedoms away is about as likely as Communism or replacing local and state law with the Nurenburg Laws, ain't gonna happen...so worrying about it is nothing less than fear mongering, IMO>

So......

As long as Citizens of the USA aren't being subjected to injustice or prejudice, the rest of the world can go to hell???

Of course, this was an act done by a terrorist group, with their own interpretation of "Sharia law". Does an extremist group justifying their act of violence with a religious text mean said religion must be evil?

No it isn't - from another thread back in 2009:

There was a thread about "Sharia courts" in the UK and I did some research to get to the actual facts behind the headlines. Turned out the so-called "Sharia courts" were nothing more than arbitration tribunals, which have been part of the UK legal system for about as long as we've had civil contracts.

What it boils down to is that in the UK you can choose to settle many civil issues by arbitration and as long as both sides agree to be bound by such arbitration then it is legally binding. However any arbitration panel can only make decisions that are in line with UK legislation. So any decisions that were (for example) not in line with the human rights act would be unenforceable, or even if the procedures of the arbitration panel somehow abridged someone's rights then the judgment would have no legal standing.

In the UK there is only one legal system to a country.

Not at all, I deplore what happened in Pakistan. However, that has practically nothing to do with anything in the United States. There is not one Sharia law being enforced or even proposed anywhere. Packistan is a basket case. Trying to scare me into going crazy over a non-existent threat of sharia law in the United States is just stupid.

And this warranted what must have been a full 30 second story on CNN this afternoon. Meanwhile what's going on with Charlie Sheen?

"Islamic community protests Tennesee's proposed Shariah ban .....

Last November, Oklahoma voters banned the use of Shariah law in state courtrooms and a federal judge declared that law unconstitutional.

At least 13 states have pending bills that would bar judges from considering Sharia law in legal decisions. Sharia law is the Islamic way of life and Islam system of law. Shariah contains many principles, including the law of jihad. ....

13 states are worried. Why?

Breeding their way into a majority, and then voting to return to the Stone Age.

Of course, this was an act done by a terrorist group, with their own interpretation of "Sharia law". Does an extremist group justifying their act of violence with a religious text mean said religion must be evil?

The problem with Islam is that it has so many more extremists justifying murder an genocide in its name than other religions. The reason is Islam is still mideaval, not having passed through an enligtenment and scientific revolution, and thus still being, in effect, a fundamentalist religion.

"Islamic community protests Tennesee's proposed Shariah ban .....

One would assume Jews would be protesting an act by the Tenessee Legislature to ban, say, Kosher practices or rituals? Or, maybe, banning ministers from officiating at legally recognized marriages? So, you're worried because Moslems in Tennessee are protesting the State Legislature acting on legislation that singles Moslems out for special rebuke but based on nothing more than a vauge threat?

Let's put it in a way that you might understand, do you think Tenessee should pass a law prohibiting Jews from Sacrificing Christian Babies to make matzah? Would you be surprised if Jews protested? Ah, but you will say that isn't a Jewish practice (it is, in fact the blood liable), so it would be wrong and unnecessary. But, than, let's have Tenessee pass a law saying that no Kosher food can be sold in the State and do so because of a perceived though imaginary threat that Kosher law is somehow going to sweep into Tenessee communities and undermine their historic freedoms. Would you be surprised if Jews protested?

Why are you surprised or worried that Moslem Americans (emphasis on the Americans) are protesting proposed laws that in their own way are similar to historical blood liables lodged against, say, Jews?

"13 states are worried. Why?

Exactly. Where in the U.S. today is any codified version of Sharia law? Where has it been proposed? Where has it been enacted? Where has it been enforced? Where has it even been seriously discussed (and no, not by some fringe crazy that Hannity can dig up) but by legisltors, law professors, Constitutional authorities, town hall meetings?

Why, indded.

why?

why are people bigoted jerks?

its a question we've been trying to answer for centuries.

I chalk it up to insecurity, ignorance, and possible chemical imbalance.

I confess that there are a some days that I feel that way, yes.
