Our next unelected PM?

Boris and chums are already more full of fluff than a pillow factory.

Can someone start a ne thread if any one of them actually says anything of substance please?

That he didn't know the full text of the article that his entire strategy was based on?

IBy sacking the Brexiteers who backed Jeremy Hunt for leader, Johnson is making clear his new dividing line is no longer Brexit but loyalty.

A bit of a bloodbath in the cabinet today, apparently the largest turnover outside of an election in which the government was defeated.

Some good news today, Grayling has gone. Word on the street is, he handed in his resignation by mistake. ;)

ETA:

Not my joke, totally stole it from twitter

I know they were kings, not PM but Charles the First and George the Third also went for "Government By Crony" and it did not end well for either...though less bad for George then Charles..George lost America and his sanity but Charles lost his head.....

From Wikipedia

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster is a ministerial office in the Government of the United Kingdom that includes as part of its duties, the administration of the estates and rents of the Duchy of Lancaster. The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster is appointed by the Sovereign on the advice of the Prime Minister.

The Chancellor is answerable to Parliament for the governance of the Duchy. However, the involvement of the Chancellor in the running of the day-to-day affairs of the Duchy is slight, and the office is held by a senior politician whose main role is usually quite different.
That estate is now run by a deputy, leaving the Chancellor as a member of the Cabinet with little obligation in regard to the Chancellorship. The position has often been given to a junior Cabinet minister with responsibilities in a particular area of policy for which there is no department with an appropriate portfolio.

it's a dodge to give someone a cabinet seat without an actual department to run.

I heard on the news just now that there is a worry about the politicisation of the Civil Service. It won't affect me personally, but I don't think it will be any good for future generations.
And Priti Pa[tel just now confirmed as Home Secretary. Roll on the Bloody Code 2.0 I guess.
I can't think of a much worse choice. It is very hard to be optimistic at the moment.

Sturgeon also became leader of the SNP unopposed when Salmond resigned, and was duly rubber-stamped First Minister of Scotland.

It seems that if we want a properly elected leader, we need to adopt a presidential system like the USA has, and then we can have a leader that everyone agrees was democratically chosen. :D

It seems that amongst leaders that aren't called 'president', Boris was chosen more democratically than most.

The EU, as always, is an outlier - they call their leader 'president' but have a very undemocratic method of choosing that president.
You're lying again.

There was a vote. Sturgeon could have lost but won it comfortably. This no more a 'rubber stamp' than any other vote that's won comfortably.

People are reduced to describing your posts as drivel simply because you don't argue honestly and are incapable of accepting that you're ever wrong about things.

Who is making book on the first Ministers to be sacked or to quit?

Rees-Mogg will be loving 'Leader of the House' but I suspect his head might disappear up his own arse with glee at getting 'Lord President of the Council' (who is responsible for presenting business for the Queen's approval)

I wouldn't be surprised if he starts wearing a frock-coat and top hat.

Priti Patel as Home Secretary is an unmitigated disaster. If she goes anywhere near capital punishment legislation, it might be one of the few things that would actually make me go on a protest.

Our new Home Secretary:

I think that demonstrates the quality of intellect at work in our new Home Secretary :(.

"You've got to have full proof....."

Is she suggesting something other than "beyond reasonable doubt" for capital cases ?

If so, what ?

If not, then there will be the inevitable miscarriages of justice (though I suppose if the person incorrectly convicted is dead, there would be less incentive to examine the case).

As for the death sentence being a deterrent - it takes a special blinkered view to ignore all of the evidence to the contrary.
