There are conflicting versions of what happened. But let's face it, when you want poor judgement Oscar Pistorius is your go-to guy! ;)

You won't hear any argument from me about Oscars lack of judgement, or lack of anger management, or lack of emotional stability.

There seems to be some conflicting stories from witnesses as to what actually happened. Going out in public while waiting the outcome of your highly publicized murder trial seems to show poor judgement on Oscars part.

May be his last taste of freedom for a long, long time.

Bump perhaps, but the closing arguments have begun today. Nel came out with this just recently -

1. The deceased decided to relieve herself and did so without saying a word to the accused.
2. For no apparent reason she opened the bathroom window.
3. She took her cellphone with her to the bathroom.
4. She decided not to switch on any of the lights.
5. She did not utter a word whilst the accused was screaming, not even when he (sic) was in the bathroom.
6. The deceased got up from the toilet to close and lock the door.
7. The deceased dressed herself before she was shot.
8. The deceased did not hide as a result of all the screaming but stood upright facing the danger.
"It just gets ridiculous, with the utmost respect," Mr Nel told the court.

I am watching Nel sum up. He argues murder regardless of who Oscar believes is behind the door. The judge challenges Nel. Is she playing devil's advocate, or has she decided Oscar believed it was an intruder?

Was there more?

1. The deceased decided to relieve herself and did so without saying a word to the accused.

yup, so?

2. For no apparent reason she opened the bathroom window.

Did I miss the part about it being hot being untrue?

3. She took her cellphone with her to the bathroom.

as you do, yup

4. She decided not to switch on any of the lights.

as many do, yup

5. She did not utter a word whilst the accused was screaming, not even when he (sic) was in the bathroom.

your boyfriend says there's an intruder in the house, why would you want to attract their attention?

6. The deceased got up from the toilet to close and lock the door.

well yes, there's an intruder in the house!

7. The deceased dressed herself before she was shot.

ie pulled up panties when should got up from the toilet. Totally unbelievable

8. The deceased did not hide as a result of all the screaming but stood upright facing the danger.

Hang on, didn't he just say she locked the door and was hiding in the toilet? If I was here listening on the door to see if you could hear what was going on would be a sensible thing

"It just gets ridiculous, with the utmost respect," Mr Nel told the court.

I don't know if Pistorius was aware it was her or not, but I see absolutely nothing ridiculous in that scenario. Nothing at all.

The interesting thing is, every event by itself doesn't mean much, it's when you total it up is when it doesn't look good.

The major issue for me, is that you if you think there is an intruder in the house the first thing you do is actually locate your beloved. Oscar didn't do this. He's fumbling for his cannon under the bed and he's totally un aware she's not there? You're in fear for your life, your lovers life and you hobble on your stumps, away from where you claim she is, and down a darkened passageway into what is greater danger. Yes, makes perfect sense.

yup, so?

as you do, yup

Context - OP was up and at the balcony door (supposedly) fiddling with fans. No reason for her to use a cell phone to light the way so as to avoid disturbing him.

He didn't need to locate her. She was obviously in the bed he just got out of.

All of the believability of that or otherwise was discussed in the case. I personally find it plausible given his background and the situation. I also find it plausible there was a lover's tiff that got out of hand.

On the balance I lean toward the first for a couple of reasons. One is that his initial story and actions have all stood up to forensic scrutiny. I didn't expect that to be the case if the prosecution case was correct.

The other is I just naturally prefer to believe the best in people. I've been wrong on that more than once (cost me millions and almost my life, but that's another story) but I still prefer that outlook.

I use my cellphone in the night (rather than turn on lights) if I get up to do things even if it won't disturb anyone. I don't like turning on the lights if I've been in the dark or asleep.

The crux of the matter

I take it all would agree that if it's true he was having an argument with his partner that evening prior to, or contemporaneously to, the time he shot her, then we have ample reason to conclude the "I thought she was a burglar" claim is nothing but expediency.

People shoot people for hundreds of reason, so what, it happens every day in LA
and nobody notices. Is there something unique about this case?

A fair point, but one that runs quite deep.

A Queen might get a state funeral while my Granny was buried with just family around.

1,000 people a day die of malaria but 100 dead in a rare plane crash gets far more attention.

It boils down to celebrity, newsworthiness and so on, I guess.

How many other international athletes and world record holders have shot their girlfriends through a toilet door whilst standing on their stumps?

Is teh point that was made about OP's position in bathroom when shooting relevant? I only saw Sky NEws presenter re-enacting, but it was said he wouldnt stand in doorway of bathroom if deliberately intending to shoot the toilet but directly in front of?

I agree with this given that it would mean he had materially falsified his account of the night (although I guess an innocent Pistorius might have suppressed the argument thing in order not to make things look bad :D).

Oscar is up fumbling with the fans. So she wouldn't be disturbing him by turning on the bathroom light that's located around a corner.

I don't like the lights on after I am asleep either. But I still turn on the bathroom lights rather than fumble around for the toilet.

What I mean is if I wake up in the night to go to the bathroom I don't turn on the lights because it disturbs me. I find the light wakes me too much and I can never get back to sleep. If I keep things down with just a phone light for example, not such a problem. Even before mobile phones I'd tend to go pee just with lights from outside windows rather than turn on a bathroom light.

For me it's strange that people do turn on lights
