Orang Pendek - dedicated thread

Identical?

On what planet?

this one, which planet are you on ?
:p
Epic comparison fail Marduk.

Those fingers on the Orangutan are 3-4 times longer than the fingers on teh cast.
yes, because orangs walk on their knuckles, the fact that you don't know that, or don't want to know that speaks volumes, did you think that in the wild the apes just sit around pushing their open hands into mud so that woo researchers can easily identify them, funny isnt it that an expert on primate feet had no trouble identifying it, whereas the woos didnt even get the right appendage. If this is still giving you trouble then I'll outline what youre suggesting
an unknown primate, living in the woods, which has hands identical to most other apes, except its fingers are the length of every other apes knuckles, what did it do, have an accident running with scissors ?

The opposable big toe thumb comes right straight out of the heel palm.
this isn't rocket science is it

tell you what though, I don't find this thread very interesting, the retorts are at best superfluous and the evidence for an unknown hominid non existent (where have we seen that before) so you woos can have it all to yourselves, have fun and play nice now
:p

*shakes head* ohhhhh swing and a miss!

There are still a few places we haven't sent a scientist. I'd love to see someone find another primate.

A footprint isnt really enough for me though...

I tried to make it simple for you smokers!

you'd better go educate this one then

apparently he hasn't listened to you either
:D
now really, don't bother drewbot, I'm not interested in discussing primate foot morphology with a bigfoot bleever, I don't have the several years free it would take to cover all your erroneous beliefs
thanks for playing but, no, you'll have to get used to playing with yourself from now on
;)

Not knuckle walking, and wouldn't match the cast.

Next!

That cast shows no dorsal surfaces of any phalanges contacting the ground.
Knuckle-walking is quadrupedal locomotion with the hands pronated and fingers flexed resulting in dorsal surfaces of the middle phalanges contacting the ground, supporting the weight on the knuckles. Gorillas and chimpanzees are habitual knuckle-walkers, whereas orangutans usually move quadrupedally with the hand made into a fist. IM indexes for the chimpanzee, gorilla, and orangutan are 102, 116, and 139, respectively.

This looks like the same song we've heard a million times. Eyewitnesses claim to have seen it, some mysterious hairs have been alleged to be from an "unknown primate," it's "verified" by local legends, it's adept at avoiding camera traps, there are some some vague footprints...

It would be cool if this were real, but all my BS alarms are ringing at full volume.

Yes, when I have seen orangs on the ground (both in video and live) they have usually placed the palm flat on the ground with the fingers extended forward. Knuckle-walking seems to me to be rare in orangs. That said, the putative orang pendek foot/handprint cast does not look like an impression that would result from an orang utan's hand.

So an Orangutan with palms on the ground, and fingers extended doesn't look like the cast

AND and Orangutan walking with it's fists, as Orangutans do, they are FIST WALKERS, wouldn't look like that cast.

I don't see what Marduk was talking about.

It is a pretty wild part of the world, so it's not out of the question, but yeah, unlikely.

What would be really nice is if it was a surviving population of homo floresiensis :)

I think Elves aren't known for being so hairy, and Goblins are bigger, so I'm 'fraid they're off the candidate list :D

Isn't it always like that, you come up with a beautiful theory and then someone kills it with an ugly fact
;)

Sorry if this is OT:
Does every thread about a big ape (that might perhaps exist, but it's rather unlikely) have to include images (preferably of footprints and feet), with large colorful arrows drawn on them? I know I'm rather new here, but that seems to be a staple of these particular topics.

You should have seen the Bigfoot posts by Swetyeti. More colour in one post than your eyes could handle. I put him on ignore because of that...and because he was mad.
