Anthropologist Dr Jeffrey Meldrum at Idaho State University said the cast was probably a primate print, but suggested it might be a handprint.

...and by golly the word "hoax" is just not gonna get used. We can work this one differently than Bigfoot. No hoaxers in Sumatra.

but plenty of misidentified Orangs and gibbons and sun bear foot prints which look human, sometimes deliberately
iirc that cast was described by someone qualified to comment as the hand of an orang, found in an area populated by them
so why is it being pushed as the footprint of an unkown primate
should be easy to compare it from a cast made at a zoo right ?
why didn't anyone bother

But orangutan fingers (and toes) are very long. This cast has gumdrops for digits.
 
Indeed, I can easily imagine there are many such cryptids posing as human beings, some living in plain sight. I have, by way of example, long suspected that my father in law is some sort of lower primate in a human suit.

Used to work in a zoo. Once was grabbed by a gibbon who (in play) pulled me by the shoulder against the bars of his enclosure. I was surprised by how effortlessly he pulled me around, considering I outweighed him by about 150 lbs. Lightning quick and ridiculously strong.

Just curious: If I'm ever grabbed by a Gibbon, how do I know he's playing? I'd probably scream like a little girl anyway, but if the situation was serious I'd like to get a "get your filthy hands off me, you dirty ape" as my last words.
As for the Orang Pendek, wasn't the "Orang-outan" considered to be a mystical "man of the woods" for quite some time? Looking for another amazing ape in the same area seems to be a longshot, considering just about any tale of a large primate in the sumatran djungles could be explained by orangutangs.

This is not my area of expertise, but looking at this dude's website, I'd say you're spoiling his fun.

I had a similar experience in Vietnam while visiting the Cat Tien rain forest. I barely got away before the keepers warned me that the one coming towards me liked to bite and pick on the nice one who was tugging on me.

Reading the article, it still seems to me as a non-zoologist that the accounts quoted mostly fall well within the familiar "embellished" and "misidentification of known species" areas. But of course, if there really is an unknown big ape to be found, that would be amazing news,so let's hope for the best.

and you didn't answer my question, if the nuts individuals who are claiming this isn't an orangutans hand are so sure, where's the evidence that they compared it with an orangutans hand cast to make sure, you'd think that would be the first thing they'd do, but for some reason known only to themselves (and the rest of the sceptical world), they decided not to bother
have they got a book coming out soon ?

The one who grabbed me ended up clutching my finger in a very endearing and affectionate way actually once he stopped monkeying around. It was sort of sad, then the mean one noticed I was giving him attention and came at me. I forgot all about this. Gibbons are neat.
