Oprah Winfrey, "The Secret" and "The Law of Attraction"

On the other hand, there are lots of drugs that advertise "take a certain number of doses, then the condition is cured and you can stop taking the drug". Antibiotics, for example.

Of course, and chemo too. Just having a little fun with the idea that the manufacturers use a disclaimer like "the drug stops doing its thing when you stop taking it".

So this seems like it's correcting a (naive? self-deluding?) assumption that taking the drug cures your fatness and you can maintain your desired weight without it once you get there, and without making any other diet and exercise changes to your lifestyle.

You'd think that would be obvious? "You got fat by taking in more calories than you burned. If you continue to do so after stopping our drug, you'll get fat again" doesn't seem to be one of those things needing explanation.

Only if you ignore the relationship between obesity and a drug which makes a permanent change in metabolism.

Your metabolism affects the speed/efficiency/ease of weight gain or loss, but CICO sits there not giving a ****. You can't maintain or gain fat in a caloric deficiency without those "defying the laws of physics" thingys clamoring for attention.

So the all powerful "The Secret/Laws of Attraction" proe, by one poster above said, to be less poweerful then a piece of Chocolate Cake?

The power of the body to manifest lipids from simple carbs is far greater than the power of positive thinking.

Amen to that.

I believe that I can put on weight by walking past a donut shop.

I can't remember the last time I had a donut or slice of cake (or anything like that), so I'm estimating at least 20 years.
