Oprah Winfrey, "The Secret" and "The Law of Attraction"

Then get a divorce for goodness sake

Thanks for the suggestion but I was only kidding...:p
I would never get a divorce from my beautiful, smart, exciting wife.

But if I ever get into marriage problems, this is the forum to come to for support, I'm sure. :D

Yair

Maybe she will divorce you if she finds out you are making jokes at her expense behind her back?
My beautiful, smart, exciting (in no particular order) wife would never divorce me for that. For not cleaning the house - sure, for not liking her friends - you betcha, for not coming to visit her parents - of course, but for making jokes of our marriage on the internet - not likely. :duck:

Joe Vitale discusses the 'real' reason behind the fires in California....yes, you've guessed it!

San Diego Fires

By Dr. Joe Vitale - October 26th, 2007
It’s interesting to me that 45 homes burned near the home of John Assaraf but his is safe.
Same with the home and office of James Ray.
Same with the manager of Lisa Nichols.
Instead of wondering why they attracted a fire, it might be wiser to wonder how they didn’t attract a fire.
I’ve spent the last day or so with Lisa Nichols and John Assaraf. They are not focused on fires. They are focused on the fire in their soul.
They spend their time working, making a difference, writing, speaking, and changing lives.
Take note.
Ao Akua,
Joe

PS — I also spent time with Dr. John Demartini. We go back more than 20 years. He, too, lives his life like a mission, filled with passion and purpose. Fires don’t stop people like this.

Stinkin' thinkin' Joe!

Perhaps you would like to add a comment or two to his blog?

Wow, the responses to their advice on relationships are just plain scary.

Attracting a specific person

"...My ex broke up with me saying that he needed some time to tie up some loose ends with his PhD and he also said he didn't know if we'd ever have a chance again because we're long distance. However, over the last month I have become incredibly grateful for this opportunity that he gave me. It has given me the time I didn't realize I needed so badly, and I know now that he had more insight into the upcoming months than I did at the time. It has provided me more growth and I understand just how wonderful our relationship actually is. I don't NEED him, I just want to share every moment I can with him. All I NEED is myself, and I LOVE myself. It's been so awesome to realize how much I truly do love myself..."

/ DO NOT WANT
// there's lots more where that came from

I have been banned from the forum, several times, for pointing out the bleedin' obvious - eg it doesn't work!

Just gone on to read another one - a guy who is trying to attract/manifest " a Hair cutting job, a Nintendo Wii, the Girl of my Dreams, and other things. I have done EFT to help me also. So far, as I can consciously see, I still haven't attracted a thing."

I dunno, perhaps it's me. But wouldn't he be far better getting off his backside and GOING OUT AND GETTING these things, rather than wishing? But then I guess that is too much like hard work.

So I guess the Secret did not work?

Oprah Winfrey to Exit WeightWatchers Board After She Announced Use of Weight-Loss Drug

Wishing still does not make it so.

In December 2023, Winfrey told People she had decided to start taking a weight-loss medication (which she did not identify) after coming to the realization that weight management does not hinge solely on a person’s self-control. “The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for,” she told People.

The Secret is the Law of Attraction.

Under the Law of Attraction, the complete order of the Universe is determined, including everything that comes into your life and everything that you experience. It does so through the magnetic power of your thoughts.

So what went wrong?

Chocolate cake has stronger magnetic powers than Oprah Winfrey.

One word: ********. Buttholes who push ******** sell far more books than intelligent people who write truth.

I once worked with a crazy lady who carried The Secret wherever she went. The "magnetic power of her thoughts" didn't help keep her from getting fired.

From my original link:
Winfrey owns about 1.1 million shares of WW International, representing a 1.43% stake in the company, according to data provider FactSet. At the current stock price, that’s worth less than $3.5 million. Her initial investment for 6.4 million shares of the company totaled $43.2 million.

She should have used her magnetic magic powers to sell out completely and quit while she was still ahead (presuming the stock was ever worth more than she paid). What she still owns is worth less than half of what she paid per share.

As Carl Sagan noted:
"Both Barnum and H. L. Mencken are said to have made the depressing observation that no one ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the American public. But the lack is not in intelligence, which is in plentiful supply; rather, the scarce commodity is systematic training in critical thinking."

That’s somewhat interesting for other reasons, because Weight Watchers announced a new association with weight loss drugs in December.

“WeightWatchers is accelerating its pivot away from a diet culture brand and into a company catering to people taking Ozempic.

“WeightWatchers on Thursday launched a new membership plan for members taking GLP-1 prescriptions drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy sometimes used for weight loss. The “WeightWatchers GLP-1 Program” will give WeightWatchers members on semaglutide medications access to doctors who can prescribe these medications, as well as daily nutrition plans, insurance coordination, and other weight loss support programs.”

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/12/14/business/weightwatchers-ozempic-weight-loss/index.html

I think your story is beefing up Winfrey’s departure when it may not be quite so unamicable.

Or perhaps she is taking a rival's drug?

WW does not manufacture or sell weight loss drugs. According to the report cited theyhave developed a program for people who do take a semaglutide drug regardless of the source.

"Without our drug you're back where you started from" should be on bottles of tequila too, IMO.

Trying to think of a drug that advertises "you're just as well off with or without our dope" but I'm drawing a blank.

Trying to think of a drug that advertises "you're just as well off with or without our dope" but I'm drawing a blank.

On the other hand, there are lots of drugs that advertise "take a certain number of doses, then the condition is cured and you can stop taking the drug". Antibiotics, for example.

So this seems like it's correcting a (naive? self-deluding?) assumption that taking the drug cures your fatness and you can maintain your desired weight without it once you get there, and without making any other diet and exercise changes to your lifestyle.
