On this day in history.

The 'folk horror' film The Sudbury Devil is set just after King Philip's War.
It's written and directed by the same guy that made the videos about the war.

1483 Richard III offered the Crown of England.
He accepted, and was crowned the following day.

1944.
1st Nottinghamshire Rangers Yeomanry, attacked and captured the Normandy town of Rauray from Kampfgruppe Weidinger 2nd SS Panzer Division.
The attack was so late in the day it took the German HQ by surprise.
The Germans pushed their Panzers forward and attacked by Shermans who's high rate of fire from their 75mm guns suppressed infantry positions. Without support the Panzers retreated with heavy losses.
The Sherman 'Akilla' commanded by Sergeant George Dring destroyed 2 Tigers, 2Pz IVs, and Panther with five consecutive shots.
Dring was awarded a second Military Medal for the action.
He won his first Military Medal for his actions in North Africa in 1943.

Left to right: Sgt J Dring; Tpr Hodkin, Tpr A Denton; Tpr E Bennett; L/Cpl S Gould.

Named after "Akilla, the Nun"?

2015 The U.S. Supreme Court rules that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples by both the Due Process Clause and the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, in the case of Obergefell v. Hodges.

Finally allowing everybody the privilige of same-sex divorce. Anyway, better late than never I guess.
