On this day in history.

1944
The first German V1 flying bomb of WW2 landed in Britain killing three people in a house in the coastal city of Southampton.
Shortly after the first bomb hit London.
11 were launched that day with only 4 reaching the cities.

The first V1s were erratic, not following their settings. Hanna Reitsch volunteered to fly one of the buzz bombs (it was fitted with a cockpit) and determined what changes needed to be made to presets. So, Londoners have her to thank for all those lovely airplane parts they got from the Continent.

The German spies that had been 'turned' in Operation Double-cross fed info back to Germany saying a kot of the bombs were overshooting London so the range was shortened. More landed in rhe fields of Kent and East Sussex than on London.

Bob Dylan records Like A Rolling Stone

Read the story I linked to above. It's very interesting, especially for all you rock'n'roll/folk-rock enthusiast.

Here's a video of his live performance on the David Letterman Show. There's a lot of memory clips of past performers before Bob Dylan comes on stage at the 7:00 minute mark exactly:

1215 King John of England signs the Magna Carta at Runnymede near Windsor in Surrey, limiting royal authority and establishing the principle that the king and his government are not above the law

Aw, isn't that just adorable?

1858 Abraham Lincoln says "A house divided against itself cannot stand" accepting Illinois Republican Party's nomination for the Senate

Hmm, I'm trying to think of how this might be apropos today.

Nope, nothing.
