On this day in history.

Radio 3's breakfast show played the first movement of Grieg's piano concerto this morning in his honour - conducted by Mr Preview, but sadly with a different soloist.

1990 – The WHO deletes homosexuality from its list of mental diseases

You read that right, 1990. Always good to see WHO on the cutting edge of social change.

Who Are You by the Who:

Sorry, PitPat, but I couldn't resist.

ETA: As we all know, this was the theme song for the very first CSI TV show. Very appropriate if you ask me.

1849 Rear Admiral Sir Nesbit Josiah Willoughby died.

His remarkable career saw him wounded multiple times, court-martialled 4 times and dismissed from the Royal Navy in 1812. Thinking his naval career ended he fought with the Russian Army and was captured by the French.
Taken back in to the Navy he was knighted in 1827 and made rear-admiral in 1847

The Annual Register of his death noted: "He was eleven times wounded with balls, three times with splinters, and cut in every part of his body with sabre and cutlass. His face was disfigured by explosions of gunpowder, and he lost an eye and had part of his neck and jaw shot away and at Leipzig had his right arm shattered by cannon shot."

He was described as "undoubtedly violent".

1536 Anne Boleyn, second wife of English King Henry VIII, is beheaded at the Tower of London on charges of adultery, incest and treason

Which due to the butterfly effect resulted in:

1898 US Congress passes the Private Mailing Card Act, allowing private publishers and printers to produce postcards, which have to be labeled "Private Mailing Cards" until 1901, known as "souvenir cards"
