Hello everyone! I arrived in Las Vegas late yesterday night, and naturally the hotel had screwed up and they didn't have the room I'd reserved available. So, with a bit of hassle I ended up spending last night in a room with two queen-sized beds instead of one king-sized bed.

No biggie - after about 20 hours of travelling, I think a pauper-sized bed would have sufficed. Anyway, for the inconvenience, I was upgraded to a suite today
Pretty sweet. :D

On to the topic. I've done some reconnaissance into possible bars for us to use. I'm working entirely with my phone only so posting pictures is pretty challenging - I've opted for trying to link you to a Google Drive folder with the pictures the url below should work

https://drive.google.com/folder/d/0B7pIniSBhFF1aGFfeDRtNGRDOTQ/edit

The picture with my ugly mug on it was taken at a great sports bar perfect for our purposes but for the inconvenient fact that it's located at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport. :(

No location here in Vegas I've found thus far is without it's drawbacks. At the hotel the lounge bar will have loud live music on the conference nights, and lucky's sports bar is tiny, and has only bar stools by the bar that is open to the casino floor.

Across a bridge on the other side of the strip I'd the MGM that has a pretty promising sports bar called TAP but it's only open till either 11 pm or midnight, depending on whether you believe the guy at the front desk, or the restaurant info screen I spotted later.

Next to the TAP is a round enclosed bar with decent seating, called Centromere - it was closed when was doing my scouting though
Don't know it's opening hours.

I'll post more once I get to it, an of course immediately if O find the perfect location. Tomorrow I'm going to the Grand Canyon though, and that will take the whole day, from VERY early in the morning till pretty late at night.

Look at the pictures, tell me if you can't get to them, discuss. :)

Oh, forgot one - went to see the nine fine irishmen. Included in the pictures.

The problem with that one is the rather limited seating, especially since a part of the upstairs is used for reservations. Also, unless I'm remembering wrong, it closes at 11 pm.

Really weird to me that so many bars close so early in Vegas of all places - In helsinki, most bars and clubs are open till 4 am.

Tropicana Lounge looks like the most optimal setup, if it weren't for the damn live music. The round one looks decent, too.

I looked at the MGM website. Did you look at Rouge? It's kind of in the back, but seems like a good option.

Thanks for the reconnaissance work, Sft! :)

TAP at the MGM apparently closes at 1 or 2am depending on the day of the week (it closes earlier for food, which is maybe what they told you), so it could be an option: http://www.mgmgrand.com/restaurants/tap.aspx

Centrifuge looks promising (though it may also be kind of loud), and it's supposedly open 24 hours, as any decent Vegas bar should be: http://www.mgmgrand.com/nightlife/centrifuge-bar.aspx

As bumlet5 suggests, maybe you can take a look at Rouge too if you have a chance.

No prob. :)

Yes thus far TAP looks like a viable option, especially with those opening hours you dug up, thanks for that. And it's very close too, and easy to find. I'll do some more scouting yet, in the next few days.

There's a nice pub next to the Aria, and the Aria itself has many bars.

Nine Fine should be OK, since we'll lose the smokers. :)

If you feel up to it, once you've checked in, we could all take a walk over to the MGM to check out the prospective locations, Tuesday night. You get a better feel for the places when you see them for your self. Looking forward to meeting you! :)
There is also the Exclaibur across the street which would be about the same distance as the MGM. The webstite shows a few places, with the Octane bar being a possible location. i also noticed the Desert Rose which is southeast of the Trop and not a far walk in the heat if we go out the back. it his no casino so it would be more quiet than other locations, but it is a time share so not sure if it has a restaurant/bar that we can use.

Thanks for the recon Sft, and when at the Grand Canyon, see if you can spot any part of Noah's Ark as i hear the Canyon was carved out during the "big flood".:)

I'm also there on Tuesday, and I'm up for a pub crawl. :)

Noah's Ark... Check. Will keep an eye out. :D
As for the Excalibur, had a brief stroll through that, and saw a jungle themed shop/cafe/restaurant/bar thingy, and a bar whose name I don't remember where people wore exceedingly silly hats (might have been a Batchelor party). Will have to take another look.
