Merged Obama on Leno

I'd like to see Obama out of the White House ASAP (although I give him credit for the stem cell thing), but even I this is ridiculous. Anyone who tries to take this and run with it has too much time on their hands and/or is just grasping at straws.

Note to readers: my post previous to theprestige's there was automodded out of existence. Thus the incontinuity.

Honestly, I like that he said it. It was him being who he was without censoring himself for consumption. Would everybody be so offended if someone joked that way in casual conversation? I wouldn't. Anyone who would seriously thinks that Obama was mocking mentally retarded people is, well, retarded.
It's not that he was intentionally mocking retarded people, it's that he was casually insensitive towards them. On live television, in front of millions of viewers. I know my friends wouldn't be offended if I talked that way. But I also know to be more polite around my parents.

And it's not that I'm grasping at straws. I happen to think that contrary to even my own lowest expectations, Barack Obama is turning out to be a full spectrum nincompoop.

His policies are abominable. His political acumen is almost zero. His widely proclaimed "smart diplomacy" is anything but. His loyalty only extends as far as his associates' first public gaffe. And now, it turns out he can't even chat with Jay Leno for a few minutes without resorting to negative stereotypes for comedy purposes.

That the comment was not very significant, in the course of the conversation, and anyone who builds a mountain out of this molehill should probably try to find something more important to spend their time rambling about.
Surely the significance of a comment is a matter of opinion, am I right?

Unless you have some credentials as the most observant Leno audience member, and most measured and judicious arbitrator of what is and is not significant in public discourse, I'm not sure your anecdote carries much rhetorical weight.

The "Obama can do no wrong" fanboys are out in force today. No criticism of Obama can go unanswered, LOL. This forum is anonymous, right? I don't want Chris Dodd-ge looking to put a 90% tax on me for failing to assimilate.

Hope and Change - must comply.

Don't see anyone saying he can do no wrong. And this is really the first time I've been struck by his demeanor and poise.

The Republicans would be proud to have such a telegenic President in office, doing Leno, and crow about it too.

And they'd be idiots to do so.

Telegenic doesn't balance the budget, or defend the nation, or achieve diplomatic success with dictators and tyrants and terrorists.

I'm glad you were favorably impressed with Obama's performance on Leno last night. I hope the Iranian government is equally impressed with his Nowruz message. I really do. On the other hand, I don't really expect the Iranian government to be the kind of people who put great stock in telegenius(?), when it comes to evaluating foreign potentates and formulating national policy. But who knows?

Meanwhile, I'm going to go ahead and pile on this "molehill" a little more. Remember when Don Imus indulged in negative stereotypes in front of an audience of millions?

Obama said he should be fired.

"He didn't just cross the line," Obama said. "He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America. The notions that as young African-American women — who I hope will be athletes — that that somehow makes them less beautiful or less important. It was a degrading comment. It's one that I'm not interested in supporting."

Though every major presidential candidate has decried the racist remarks, Obama is the first one to say Imus should lose his job for them.
Obama makes a point of his daughters being members of the offended group.

By his own standard, shouldn't the parents of Special Athletes the world over be justified in demanding that he step down?

Seriously, the next time you're feeling all tingly about how telegenic Obama is, you should try turning off the television and just reading the transcript aloud to yourself. See what you think.

The "Obama can do no right" whiners are out in force today. No action of Obama can go uncriticized, LOL.

Way to raise the level of discourse.

Yeah, this is nonsense but I do like it when the dingleberries who went after Imus can get called on it.

Llike Al Roker for instance (about the 5:30 mark). :p

Ron and Fez noon to three.

Oh, Obama can definitely do right, in my opinion. He obviously loves his daughters very much. I approve.

Wasn't implying you, kallsop, or anyone else here (eh, sure I'll call BaC, why not) actually fits in that category. I'm just criticizing the rhetoric.

I took heat for this in another thread, but having watched the interview, I think Obama is leading the way to a more Socialist United States. He talked about the "entitlement" of the elite on Wall Street, and getting back to knowing what we need and when enough is enough. Between the Government bailouts, gauranteed loans and 90% taxation etc. how can you say he isn't?

Oh, that again?

Look, the reality is, this nation is staunchly market-driven capitalist.

Right now we've got our butts in a crack, and it may take some extraordinary measures to get us out.

If we let the cry of "Socialism!" be our bugaboo, we're going to hang ourselves.

Nobody in DC wants to permanently nationalize major industries.

In fact, right now, some big banks are practically begging to be nationalized, and this administration is rejecting them.

If it comes to that, then we may have to nationalize them temporarily. But nobody has the stomach for anything beyond that.

The torch and pitchfork crowd who get all riled up when someone yells "Socialism!" in a crowded recession are going to be a barrier to pragmatic policy.
