Obama: Lipstick on a Pig

It's a clumsy joke, considering that Palin recently joked about lipstick on a PIT BULL, not a PIG.

She DID?

Why hasn't the PRESS picked up on this? Must be part of the LIBERAL MEDIA CONSPIRACY. Maybe you could provide us with a LINK. ;)

If anything, Obama was calling Palin lipstick, since pig obviously referred to McCain's policy positions.

Who are you calling "lipstick"? You sexist pig!

It's now clear what the mission of the Palin Truth Squad is: deflect all criticism with charges of sexism. If it was simply to debunk false claims about Palin, then why are they all women, and why is this pig thing their first "issue"?

Operation: Lipstick on a Pig
is a go.

Wait a minute. Obama makes a perfectly lucid remark, Gramps misunderstands, or pretends to misunderstand it, and the Dems are on the defensive? I don't see your logic here. Sounds like another attempt to twist reality around to relieve the sting of having your butt handed to you on a stick with a teriyaki glaze.

Almost twooferish logic.

That's one of the reasons I sometimes think Da Twoof is a Rovian plot to make McCain look sane by comparison.

You're obviously disinfo and actually a McCain operative.

Is there some point at which RumpleMcCainskin stamps so much that he falls through the ground and is never seen again?

It seems Obama got the talking points to the pig remark from cartoonist Tom Toles. Probably gonna take him along when he talks to Putin. Link

Subtly reinforcing the meme that she can't raise a family and be VP?

As opposed to a man who's "tired out" by only 2 kids, wanting to be P?

Cokie Roberts pointed out last weekend that many women have an holy hatred of the patronizing comment that a mother can't have a job and raise kids, too. Of course, the Republicans want to put that to work for them this election, when usually they love doing the patronizing of that exact concept.

Completely different circumstances, because of Palin's lipstick joke at the convention.

That said, I go back to my original comment on this. I don't think Obama did this intentionally. It's just a rookie mistake. Rookies get rattled in the late innings of a close ballgame.

I think you're right to a degree. It's why the McCain campaign has been smart enough to keep their rookie cheering from the bullpen and off the mound.

Yes, I said bull, and not sow. :)

This ad is another example of a deliberate lie by the McCain-Palin campaign. Barack Obama was not referring to Sarah Palin when he made his comment. That's been shown here over and over.

Why can't the McCain-Palin campaign talk about the issues? Why do they have to keep lying? Why is their only hope of victory this constant playing of the victim card?

I apologize if this has already been posted ...

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/10/campaign.lipstick/index.html

It wasn't the first time Obama used the line. In a phone interview with The Washington Post last September, he used it in reference to the situation in Iraq.

"I think that both Gen. [David] Petraeus and Ambassador [Ryan] Crocker are capable people who have been given an impossible assignment," Obama told the Post. "George Bush has given a mission to Gen. Petraeus, and he has done his best to try to figure out how to put lipstick on a pig."

From the same link ...

Other politicians have also used the phrase in recent years, including Vice President Dick Cheney, Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington state, Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Rep. John Mica of Florida and Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, among others.

Torie Clarke, a former McCain adviser, even wrote a book called, "Lipstick on a Pig: Winning In the No-Spin Era by Someone Who Knows the Game."

Still, the McCain campaign says Obama's use was intentional, and they want an apology.

Huckabee doesn't agree with the McCain campaign ...

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/10/campaign.lipstick/index.html

McCain ally Mike Huckabee took Obama's side on the issue, saying he didn't think it was a swipe at Palin.

"It's an old expression, and I'm going to have to cut Obama some slack on that one. I do not think he was referring to Sarah Palin; he didn't reference her. If you take the two sound bites together, it may sound like it," he said on Fox's "Hannity and Colmes."

"But I've been a guy at the podium many times, and you say something that's maybe a part of an old joke and then somebody ties it in. So, I'm going to have to cut him slack."

Ouch.
