Merged Obama enters GZ Mosque debate

Good on Reid. Succinct and to the point: "The First Amendment protects freedom of religion. Senator Reid respects that but thinks that the mosque should be built some place else."

From Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (through a spokesperson):

Idiot. Ass. Since he's looking likely to be re-elected, I would strongly support someone else taking over the leadership of Senate Dems.

Reid is in a close race with a Tea Bag Loon.
I will give him a pass on this one.
And where do you read he is likely to be relected. The Nevada race is a toss up?
You are aware there is good chance the Dems will lose the congress in November?

should it be built somewhere else? maybe. though 3 blocks north really won't stop the haters and extremists.

should the Govt. step in in ANY way to prevent it from being built at the current location? hellz no!!!!

Why "maybe"? Is Reid a hater and extremist?

hater? naa.

extremist? naa.

appeasing his voters to try to save his skin? yep.

this shows Reid favors his seat more than his principles. I am not very proud of him at this moment.

I prefer statements such as:

"while the feelings of 9-11 victim family members must be listened to, the American principles of Freedom of Religion and tolerance are paramount in our democracy. I somewhat understand how some might be uncomfortable with a large mosque soo close to GZ, but we must put our fears aside and realize the greater issue here..which is of freedom and equality".

I am shocked that Harry Reid is not as eloquent as I.

For those who care, the Intrade prediction markets still have Obama at 60% to win re-election in 2012 - just the same as the day before this "Ground Zero Mosque" kerfluffle. Meh

Hmmm... what would the conservatives be saying if the Obama admin announced that regardless of state law all firearms within a 1 mile radius from the spot where Obama was speaking were banned?

And similar objections would be raised if a waco christian militia group bombed a building causing massive deaths then wanted to build a church near the spot.

If it was the same militant group, maybe. However, this Mosque is not AlQueda. There are plenty of Catholic Churches that are still erected near k-12 schools.........where's the objection?

Interesting point. KKK lynchings killed far more Americans than the 9/11 attack. The KKK also incorporated Christian symbolism into it's rituals.

It may be a good assumption, but do we have proof that most KKK members were Southern Baptists?

Well, if we use Neally logic, we'd have to actually ban all Christian churches, not just Southern Baptists. After all, he's equating all Muslims with terrorists.

Pandering to fools is the politician's stock-in-trade. They're all gutless spineless buttards.

Let the Imam repudiate the 9/11 bombings and all Muslim terrorists and that would make me more comfortable with it. Have you heard him do so?

So you know for a fact that Reids "real" principles are that he has no objections whatsoever to the location, but he's just pandering to the masses? How do you know what his real principles are?

Let the Pope actually stop hiding pedophiles and you'll have a point.

Has anyone actually read up on Abdul Rauf? The guy was tapped by the BUSH ADMINISTRATION to be part of a diplomatic envoy to the Middle East.

The guy doesn't have anything to answer for.

The mind-readers around here to the contrary, I can't imagine why everybody thinks of this issue solely in political terms. For the record, once again, I doubt if this will have any significant impact on the elections in 2010 and 2012. It's a nothing issue as compared to the economy.

The supporters of this project have become so blinded in their belief that not only is the Mosque good and noble, but that nobody could possibly oppose it for reasons other than base ones. Dudalb is so far around the bend that he thinks Harry Reid is only opposing it to get reelected, and to top it off, he refuses to condemn Reid because there is a higher calling, that of beating a tea party candidate.

Skepticism no, cynicism yes.

Bush 1....or Bush 2?

You know, cause, Bush 1 was always known as a bit of an Arabist.

;)

Harry Reid's cowardice on this issue is truly disgusting. Nobody who pays attention would ever accuse him of being a man of integrity, but this is truly pandering to the lowest common denominator.

when all Reverends & Bishops from Lutheran Churches repudiate the bigoted and hateful writings of one Mr. Martin Luther, then we can ask all Immam's to repudiate 9-11 and all Muslim terrorists.

And all Calvinist Bishops and Ministers too.
