Obama: Enemy of Humanity

Pelosi and Hoyer were talking about violent talk and the disruption of debates:

The dialogue between elected representatives and constituents is at the heart of our democracy and plays an integral role in assuring that the legislation we write reflects the genuine needs and concerns of the people we represent.

However, it is now evident that an ugly campaign is underway not merely to misrepresent the health insurance reform legislation, but to disrupt public meetings and prevent members of Congress and constituents from conducting a civil dialogue. These tactics have included hanging in effigy one Democratic member of Congress in Maryland and protesters holding a sign displaying a tombstone with the name of another congressman in Texas, where protesters also shouted "Just say no!" drowning out those who wanted to hold a substantive discussion.
Reid was talking about lies:

Such evil-mongers are using lies, innuendo, and rumor to drown out rational debate.
When a radical fringe element of demonstrators and others begin to attack the president of the United States as an animal or as a reincarnation of Adolf Hitler or when they wave signs in the air that said we should have buried Obama with Kennedy, those kinds of things are beyond the bounds," the Democrat who served from 1977-1981 told students at Emory University.

I think people who are guilty of that kind of personal attack against Obama have been influenced to a major degree by a belief that he should not be president because he happens to be African American.

There is nothing wrong with what these people said.

Ah, so Rip Van Ziggerat has Peephole on ignore too. Suddenly, his reasoning is becoming more and more apparent.

P.S. Two people can both be patriotic, and still disagree about something. It's something the right wing has missed, because they've confused patriotism with nationalism.

And, just to speed things along,

Pelosi said drowning people out in a debate so the other side could not be heard was un-American, not dissent.

Ried was referring to a bunch of different things, but not dissent. For that matter, he didn't even said it was unpatriotic.

Carter, likewise, did not refer to the patriotism of any of the dissenters, only to part of their motivation.

I have no idea what you think Hoyer said.

The only way you could misconstrue these criticism as declaring dissenters unpatriotic is if you assume that any criticism is unpatriotic. Which kinda supports GreyICE's point, doesn't it?

Ah, well. Now that is a shame. Apparently, Zig didn't so much sleep through the early 2000's as much as he selectively ignores the parts that don't venerate conservatives.

I have a theory brewing that there are some that consider conservatism, by definition, patriotic and anything that isn't conservative is automatically tratorous or un-American. Note the teabagger rhetoric or simply this thread where simple criticism of a conservative argument is presented as evidence that the argument is being called unpatriotic.

In other words, the target of their attacks were limited to something smaller than just "dissent" or "criticism". Funny how you can recognize that in some cases, but not in others...

You're not making much sense. There's a clear difference between calling people out on disrupting debates, and blaming someone for "siding with the enemy" because they might have some objections against a war.

That makes no sense. Could you elaborate on what you mean?

In what other cases, for example?

eta: Oh. Zig is reading Peephole's posts after all. He's simply refusing to comment on the post that completely decimated his position.

Are any and all objections to the war being so categorized? Nope. No more than any opposition to health care reform is being so categorized.

The inability to see such double standards is rather common now, so don't feel too bad about it.

Ah, there go the goal posts. It isn't about calling dissent unpatriotic any more.

No, Rep. Thomas Davis literally accusing a Bush critic of the act of treason makes it so.

The Ann Coulter cover is just, as always, laughable.
Do we need to run Al Gore's video in which he screams and hollars about how "He betrayed this country!" at the top of his lungs.

Hmmm, betray one's country. Treason.

I am appalled at the incredibly narrow and partisan horsecrap I am seeing in this thread. For those of you who voted for President Obama, I suggest you listen to his many comments on how we must get this done together. It is a sentiment I quite agree with.

Some of y'all sports fans really aren't playing along with his vision.

As to Coulter's book:

In treason there's no profit
What's the reason?
If it profit, none dare call it treason

I thus conclude that Coulter's book did not make a profit. :D

@ Grey Ice/OP: I think you may have misheard. What I heard was not Obama, enemy of humanity, but instead

Obama, enemy of Sean Hannity. ;)

Then again, I am the one who spent too many years listening to jet exhaust and the scream of turbine engines, so maybe I misheard.

I believe altering someone's username is against forum rules.

That I don't actually mind. It's juvenile, but I'm all in favor of letting posters demonstrate that aspect of themselves. He also couldn't spell it right, but that's no big deal, I'm a bad enough speller that I can't really blame others. I depend heavily on Firefox's built-in spell check.

No, pointing out that Bush lied to the public and betrayed their trust (when no one else in the media or in politics had the balls to do so) isn't the same thing as accusing him of treason.

Try again.
