Obama causes earthquakes...

But Chavez is a a socialist! He hates Bush! With such impeccable credentials, how can he be wrong???

At least the long line of Chavez defenders in the last few years on this forum -- all trying to deny the obvious, namely, that he's a nutty dictator, as being some sort of "right-wing propaganda" -- is, I hope, going to end soon.

Are you talking about the people who thought that the US backing a military coup was a piss-poor idea, or is it something else that we're missing here?

An USA plot to take Haiti?

Nope, he claims it was the test of an earthquake weapon USA plans to use to destroy Iran. It must be true, since he claims the info came from a report from Russia...

Okay, that makes much more sense.

Why wouldn't we just test it on Iran from the get go? If we caused and earth quake there, great. If not, who'd be the wiser? Now, Iran will be on to us and try to either achieve earth quake making technology on their own, or create earthquake blocking technology that will not only solve their immediate fears of trouble from the US, but which they will hold countries prone to earthquakes, like the US (think California and Alaska) hostage to spending billions to get the preventive technology.

It is all one big, mean earthquake inducement prevention cycle taht will not end well.

It requires pure evil to use as a power source. We had to juice it up by hitting Haiti.

What I wonder is how many people in Venezuela and possibly even other countries in South America believe this kind of crap.

Sorry, but that's just dumb. Everyone knows that when you go for World domination, you invade Poland. It's a tradition.

Hey, screw you! I wanted to make that joke.

If America had this kind of power, wouldn't it drop a 10.3 earthquake right under Chavez?

But Chavez power of personality cancel out all rule of law HAARP beams.

Or the third option would be that they start wrapping everything in bubble wrap.

And we couldn't take over Haiti while we were there 20 years ago?

According to the ancient Nwasonmitattiburger text...
Only when a Moor lives in the House of White, will the Nwasonmitattiburger leader country (known as Amerikkka) take the Isle of Hispanol from the people who don't live there yet.

Christopher Walken did'tn need pure evil as a source in "A View To A KIll"...a movie which Hugo might have seen once too often....

Okay, this may be asking too much from such this *******, but since when are earthquakes considered "climate?"

Blah blah scaler waves, blah blah gaggle giggle blah energy bottleneck blah blah imperialism bippty boppity economic terrorism meh mah muggle bizzile The Shock Doctrine bah bah!

Does that work for you? :D

Why?
He's getting the rope, is circling his neck with it, preparing a nice knot, looking for a nice high pipe to pass the rope and a chair...

I interpret these things as signs of despair. He needs to draw the attention of people away from the mess he made with Venezuela's economy. The standard solution many governments (especially the authoritarian ones) use? Point towards an external enemy. The wildest the claim, the deeper the despair, the smaller the respect for the people. ETA- alternatively, also the greater the confidence the government has on its control over the media and education.

This doesn't mean, of course, he'll fall anytime soon. Unfortunately for his country and in many a way for us(*), his neighbours.

(*) Please note I'm from Brazil.

Ever heard of MAD?
Pun intended.

Possibly roughly a population slice similar to the percentage of people in USA who would believe in this sort of crap.

But its just my wild guess.

In Chavez's defense- it's pretty obvious that if you were plotting world domination, the first logical step would be to take over Haiti.

Nope, you have to take over Madagascar first. Those guys will shut down everything in a heartbeat, making it impossible to get in... ;)

"... we have the worrisome suspicion that this earthquake may be associated with the project called HAARP, a system that can generate violent and unexpected changes in climate..."

No, the changes that HAARP generates are both subtle and expected ... global warming ... melting icecaps ... anorexic polar bears ... the need for analog to digital TV conversion ... more UFO sightings ... changing global economy ... fulfillment of Biblical prophesies ... Swine Flu ... insidious malaise necessitating the need for more effective anti-depressants ... more frequent diagnoses of high-functioning autistic disorders ... and a general increase in wooishness. But never earthquakes!

:bs:

... Chavez's Venezuela is pushing the story that the US caused the earthquake in order to take over Haiti.

They are? If so, it would be helpful to post some direct quotes from the people who are saying this, instead of:
a link to a libertarian site quoting what appears to be Chavez's detractors.

I think it's an important basic skeptical principle to criticize people based on what they actually say, rather than on what others claim they have said. That should apply equally to all people, whether we are inclined to look favorably or unfavorably upon them.

If Chavez and his people are actually saying these things publicly, it should not be hard to find examples of the statements they have made. Then we can know who said what, and proceed from there.

Chavez has gone on record stating he thinks the US is invading Haiti.
