NYC Ballot Initiative Update

One of (many) problems with the first 9/11 commission investigation was that they seemed more focused on who was not responsible or liable for letting the 9/11 attacks happen in the first place then they were with how they happened and who was ultimately responsible other then 19 individuals that have still not been positively identified supposedly following a leader who is still at large.

It was setup to get people off the hook not on it.

And the reason for that is that no one except truthers seriously questions whether Al Qaeda was responsible for 9/11.

If this ballot makes it to the 2009 vote, I will personally assist any effort to galvanize the people of New York City into voting "NO!!".

All those signatures are truthers? Or just people who want some questions answered?

Is there a difference in the duhbukass world?

They very well could have been folks on the streets accosted by truthers, who signed the paper so that they would be left alone and could go on their way.

it is impossible to know the opinions and mentalities of all those who signed the petitions. lets remember that a lot of New Yorkers will pretty much sign anything that sounds cool.

i bet you I could walk around all day with a petition to ban the use of Dihydrogen Monoxide in farms and restaraunts, and I could get a 100 signatures or so.

Very well could have been is the best you got huh?

Why is that?

Oh I bet you could in your head in your cellar.

you assume that the people who signed the petition did it of their own free will and understood precisely what they were signing.

I assume that the people who signed the petition had know idea what they were really signing and may have been felt forced to do it inorder to get out of an annoying situation.

your guess is as good as mine. Though I was born, was raised, and do live in NYC so my guess has a little more weight then yours.

Yes I am assuming they are aware of the events of 9/11 and no gun was put to their head.

Am I a naive ex-resident of NYC or is there a conspiracy theory you would like to get off your chest? Being from the area I do not know too many people who do things just in order to get out of an annoying situation. They would preferably punch someone in the face.

Okay well lets look at this scenerio.

Measure passes.

New investigation gets set up.

Calls federal officials to testify.

Federal Government takes it to court.

Court rules that this new investigation does not have the authority to compell federal officials to testify.

Gets appealed to the Supreme court. Where it gets denied or the Supreme court upholds lower court ruling.

Truthers claim another conspiracy.

Not at all relevant. What is relevant is what the Truth Movement does next. Supposedly, you've got what you need to move forward with your investigation. So let's see you make it happen already!

BTW in Minnesota a referendum on the ballot has to pass by a majority of registered voters, not just those voting. In other words, if someone doesn't vote in the election it's counted as a no vote on the issue. I don't know if that's true in New York, but if it doesn't get on the ballot this year, they might have difficulty in an off year election.

Some updates:

1. Jamieson has the latest number of signatures as of 1/28/09: 30,000. Some of you may recall that was about the number claimed as of August, so it looks like Les has utilized the last several months on other activities.

2. Better yet, Carl Person has established a competing petition. Person is improbably even less credible than Les Jamieson with the so-called responsible wing of the Troofers.

Person's petition is substantially different from Jamieson's, so there would be no argument that the two could somehow be combined. Person suggests that the city fund it out of those huge budget surpluses he found mentioned in a 2006 article, plus he expects to sue a lot of people as a result of his investigation, and if the city could sell a little real estate it would help as well. He claims to have discovered some technicality in NYC law that lets him become an independent NYC attorney general based on the petition.

His petition specifies that the commission would be selected by a three-person panel that he would name from among people who had published a book, film, magazine article or website about 9-11.

Yes. Billion dollar deficits..and we should spend money on a new truther reinvestigation. How about we instead use the money to save jobs???????

:jaw-dropp

AKA the really, really paranoid ones, who think every 9/11 dunce who doesn't think like they do is a disinfo operative, and who could only reply to the facts I presented by claiming that I was employing psychological trickery. It's hard to say which faction of truthers is the saddest. They're all so pathetic.

Maybe we are looking at this the totally wrong way folks. Maybe we should actually WANT a new investigation to happen!!

That way..when it comes up with absolutely nothing.....the truth movement will finally fade away...and we can have peace in our time!!

Bolded Part.

I'm sure this is some sort of logical fallacy, but I can't figure out which.

HI, I'm from New York - and almost no one I know would prefer punching someone in the face. Is it possible that you are just hanging out with the wrong sort of people? Alternately, is that just the reaction you provoke in everyone, so you think they want to punch everyone when it's really only directed towards you?

Thanks for the update, Pat. The splitters are true to form. :newlol

I just came across yet another ballot initiative.

Evan Ravitz, activist and webmaster of www.vote.org, who is a
passionate advocate for national ballot initiatives, offered us an idea
to improve our outreach to the public. Observing the popularity of the
homemade cookies that we gave away at our booth as well as at some of
the poster sessions, he suggested making a large banner saying \2239/11
Truth and Cookies\224 and using that name to create yet another 9/11 Truth group, with perhaps greater appeal than the many Pilots, Veterans, Fire
Fighters, Scholars\205 for 9/11 Truth groups. He also suggested putting
the cookie recipes on the website.

(I didn't read that entire screed. When I am faced with something that long, I just search for "11" out of curiosity.)
