Yeah, the hard part has been figuring out which one to get. I'll probably get that one soon, and maybe Live at the Village Vanguard as well.

There's an utterly amazing article by the singer of Okkervil River about watching Dr Hook's DVD of Live at Musikladen here:

We Never Have to Be Alone | Will Sheff

As a result of this piece, the price of the DVD has shot up in recent years, so you'd have to trawl through YouTube if you want to verify that what he says about it is actually true, though there are comments from a couple of people in the band including Denis himself if you scroll down that far.

Also, Peabo Bryson has died. I saw him live just six months ago and he looked to be in fine health (and in great voice). He had a seven-year-old son, so that must be terribly hard on him.

He was a good musician and singer too, I have both his albums (and 'Once More With Feeling') and he also sang in "Repo the Genetic Opera". I wish I'd seen him in The Rocky Horror Show, I'd bet he'd be one of the great Frank N Furters.

Shame, my favourite artist.

David Hockney

I went to his art exhibition at the Royal Academy twice; massive queues. On the last day, the queue was for four hours. Luckily, I had a members card or it would have been even longer.

Love his art.

One of my favourite possessions is a book with some of the pictures he painted of his dachshunds. A perfect book.

His abstracted landscapes of the Yorkshire Wolds are magnificent.

Photos on a computer screen don't do them justice, they need to be seen on a wall.

His Year In Normandie exhibition was marvellous

The teaching of drawing is the teaching of looking. A lot of people don't look very hard."
-David Hockney

[Guybrush Threepwood]

Nice! I do think both Hockney and Marjane Satrapi were worthy of their own threads though.

[Norman Alexander]

A genuine loss to humanity.

He said in 2020

"I’m 82, I’m going to die. We die because we are born. The only things that matter in life are food and love, in that order, and also our little dog Ruby. I truly believe this, and for me, the basis of art is love. I love life."
