Well, they got their aggression. They killed 2 South Korean Marines and a few civilians. They burned a village to the ground.

I am 100% confident that if they fire a single rocket at an American or SK ship during the next few day's exercises, they will get a retaliation at a scale not seen since the bombing of Serbia.

And if they go further, then..thats it. End the NK regime.

So be it. Full retaliation from the air, not a single boot on the ground and triple it or better if they fire a second time. Being sure to hit any site known or suspected to provide any kind of nuclear/atomic function. I am way up with this and the total of what I wanted for Iraq. Seriously, if F-15s were having turkey shoots with MiG 21s by 1978 and Phantoms were doing the same in Vietnam, what hope does it have when F-22s and F-15s come in to Best Korea.

The last figures I saw have the vaunted NK air force with EXPERIENCED pilots at 15 hours of flight time. I think you need to log more time than that to get to clean the helmets of the guys on the Kitty Hawk.

The Kims have this problem... You train a guy to fly these things and he might just land in Hokaido "by mistake". Net loss: One trained pilot. One expensive bird.

The NK air force is almost as big a joke as its navy. But the navy can manage to sink a ship, apparently. The air force could, no doubt, take out a truck stop. It's the army that is the concern. More than a million men in uniform and another seven million in reserve. I have no doubt that the South would decimate them before the got very far, but that'd just be the first wave or two. The problem for the South is that you run out of ammunition before you run out of grunts to shoot at.

Meanwhile, back in Realityville, China is calling for high level talks and is apparently going to pick up their face points around the conference table as is their wont. (I'm surprised it's taken this long for this little flare up to hit the US - we've been all over it in Asia for the last six days.)

American media is all over the story, and the average American is very interested in these events, and the whole Korean issue

Yes to the first; and if NK starts the hostilities, yes to the second.

You're assuming that the Norks can actually move this army. That's not a good assumption. They probably can't move 7 million reserves on any rapid timescale in the best of times, and they probably won't be able to move most of them at all once we take out their rail network from the air (their roads are crap, and we can destroy those too). The danger is indeed from the army, but it's from the weapons and men the army already has in place. Quite considerable numbers even there, and enough to do a LOT of damage before they get taken out, but the Norks aren't crossing the DMZ alive in any large numbers.

Excellent question. My understanding is that they have hoarded fuel for the army even when that meant that citizens were freezing. SO, I would imagine they have enough for a few day's operations, and I would be amazed if part of the war plan did not focus on capture of SK fuel.

Quite possibly not, which is a big part of why I said I don't think they can move much. They can probably move quite a bit by rail right now, since rail doesn't require a lot of fuel. But railways won't last once the firing starts. And roads, especially bad roads, require a lot more fuel than rail.
