Nonskepticism and the Memo

I'm creating this thread for all of the supposition, guesstimating, and theorizing we want to do for the memo. I think we should indulge ourselves and go into the realm of the unprovable if only for fun and to see if someone is actually proved right later on.

So far the thoeries already put out:
1. DNC did it to dethrone Bush
2. Hillary did it so that the obvious forgery would sink Kerry
3. Karl Rove dirty trick so that the obvious forgery would sink Kerry

Another good title for this thread might have been "cynicism and the memo". Nonskepticism sounds like something deviate.

They were created by a board student and the whole thing got out of hand.

Rumor is, there is a scandal involving Kerry committing fraud relating to his naval reserve status after vietnam and that this was done to get Bush back in the spotlight so that when the Kerry story breaks it will be seen as tit for tat and not real.

A new one...

'This was such an obvious forgery, that only an ignorant Bush stooge couldn't see that it was a clever piece of satire, ala Michael Moore...'

I think we need more "fake memo" threads.

After all, if we stopped talking about this, what else would we discuss? Stuff that matters? Nah.

The memo is really the "hot story" right now election wise. This is the election forum.

And lets face it, its simply scandalous.

Let's vote on the best theory...I'll be in charge of deciding who can vote for the 'Planetex' choice of theories, and Cleon can be in charge of decidng who gets to vote for the 'Planetenn' preferred theory...

(BTW did you hear that Cleon cheated to be named hall monitor in grade school?)
:p :p

4. Bill Burkett did it to sink Bush's reelection chances.

I think we have a winner.

The memos were faxed from a kinkos in his area. People who read them noted they used army lingo (versus airforce). Burkette has had an axe to grind.

If this turns out to be true, it will be even worse for CBS. How could they take memos from someone who wasn't even in the air national guard who they know is out to get Bush and not even get them analyzed for authenticity?

Dan Rather is turning into a laughing stock over this issue.

The Weekly World News did it so that next week's cover story, "Memos Prove Bush Was Soviet Spy!" would seem more plausible.

Followed by: "Kerry, the Antichrist. Shocking Memos Reveal the Truth"

Keep up the good work. If you manage to pull this off, I promise to make you President.

This particular obvious forgery could only sink Rather.

If Kerry was smart, he'd denounce the memo like this: "My position on this memo is clear. Regardless of what George Bush's actual service history is, most experts agree that this memo is faked, I think it is faked, and Dan Rather should have admitted it from the start."

This makes him appear decisive and strong even though it's a freebie/no brainer.

But he's not going to do that, because he wants to lose this election even though it's ALSO a freebie/no brainer. Should Kerry ever learn to communicate in soundbites with emotion instead of remaining in filibustering robot mode, that is.

He shouldnt talk about the memo or the national guard. He should talk about health care and the economy and work on his strengths. He should talk about John Kerry.

I think one of the problems with this campaign is its between Bush and "the other guy". I wonder what Kerry's name recognition nationally is right now. His is only liked by 36 percent of the electorate according to the latest polls. This country is majority democrat.

He needs to talk about John Kerry, act presidential, and get his base campaigning for him instead of campaigning against Bush. The whole fortunate son coordinated national guard attack is just taking even more attention away from Kerry.

I think Edwards has fallen off the edge of the earth at this point.

Seriously! I haven't heard from Edwards in a long time. Could it be because his charisma overshadows Kerry's and the campaign managers want to downplay this?

I think he should do like I said and THEN quit talking about it. He should treat every attack exactly like I said - a quick short and decisive bite-sized statement that is both pithy and strong, followed by ignoring that attack forever after. Instead, he is just skipping right to the ignoring part.

He needs to attack Bush, because he will be defined by the RNC if he doesn't. He does need to state, in unequivocal soundbite form, what his positions are. He should also say that he voted to give the president authority to invade Iraq because he thought Bush would be doing it like his father, with coalitions and support and only as a last resort, and certainly not illegally or virtually unilaterally, and only AFTER the US was finished in Afghanistan and had captured Osama.

He should also say that he voted against the $87 billion bill because it had things X, Y, and Z in it. Then he should follow that by saying that Bush should have waited until AFTER our troops had the necessary equipment like flak jackets before sending them into Iraq, not send them without the necessary tools and then try to get Congress to vote on it. He should follow THAT with the soundbite ready "He sent the men into danger and said "don't worry, we'll vote on your equipment later."

Or, he should just fart the National Anthem during the debates. Not the US one, I mean the Radiohead song.
