No Fly zones over Libya?

wow...the French have warplanes?

who'da thunk they would ever again lead a military campaign.

;)

From Naval ships the USA is taking out the Libyan air defenses. Soon it will be safe to fly any military aircraft over Tripoli. It's pretty much the beginning of the end of this regime.

I will. We're

Australia does appear to be involved.

sending forces to prevent a genocide from happening. Stop bitching about it.

Which ethnic group do you think Gaddafi is out to destory? I mean yes we might expect the odd massacre and rather more people being quietly taken care of by the secret police but genocide seems unlikely.

Chad and ivory coast probably. France likes to play in it's former empire. Libya though is a bit of a departure for them.

"The US always preaches values that it cannot live up to," says Marina Ottaway, director of the Middle East programme at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington.

"In the end, its interests come first."

'Why is US backing force in Libya but not Bahrain, Yemen?'

Yes, all else being equal, the US will choose to get involved where it has interests as opposed to where it doesn't. If you can't understand this, seek professional help.

It would be a lot easier for the US to demand oil rights from Ghaddafi in exchange for looking the other way as he deals with the rebellion. He'd give them, too, he's been buying international goodwill in this way for decades. Meditate on this.

And it's going to be a NATO intervention, which is backed by the Arab League, not just a US decision.

But yet again, it's the US JihadJane decides to point the finger on.

Like clockwork. Where do I ask for my million dollars?

TRIPOLI, March 19, 2011 (AFP) – Libyan state television said a French warplane was shot down Saturday in the Njela district of Tripoli, as the West launched air strikes against the forces of Libya’s leader Moamer Kadhafi

110 cruise missiles fired by US/UK forces. "May you lead an interesting life."

So the RAF is making airstrikes around Begazi?

God, it's deja vu all over again.........

Being a long time wargamer has one advantage. The maps from my games on the North African campaign in WW2 might come in very hand.......

here's my question:

who are the good guys?

who are our allies?

what kind of state do the rebels wish to create?

'The Rhetoric of Democracy':

A clip from 'War Made Easy', which reaches into the Orwellian memory hole to expose a 50-year pattern of government deception and media spin that has dragged the United States into one war after another from Vietnam to Iraq ....to Libya.

So, anyone have any thoughts on that rebel-flown fighter jet borrowed from Gaddafi's air force, shot down over Benghazi? Were the rebels the first ones to break the no-fly zone order? To attack rebel bases, as the first reports said? Or to attack Gaddafi's forces near town? Shot down by Gaddafi's genocidal forces to curb their efforts at protest? Or by the rebels themselves for some reason? Was there supposed to be a second act to that play that was cancelled for some reason?

Early Saturday a warplane belonging to rebel forces was shot down over Benghazi, crashing in a ball of smoke and flames. Rebel leader Younes confirmed that pro-Gadhafi gunners downed the plane but that the pilot ejected safely.

Is that confirmed, or alleged?

It's not NATO. That would cause too many problems with france not wanting to use NATO and germany not wanting to get involved. If it wasn't for the blatant misuse the term has received in the past it might almost be described as a coalition of the willing.

Jihad Jane, you do know that the intervention is what the Arab League asked for, right?

JJ? Are you there? Do you want to post propaganda links or to discuss?

Perhaps that's the benefit of this going through the UN, so we can say 'the world stands up'. It deprives Gadaffi of a propaganda victory in which he can say that just the US imperialists are attacking.

As I sit here, Quackdaffi's about to go on TV yammering about the West and crusades and some BS.

110 Tomahawk cruise missiles and counting, Quacky. Smile!
