Thinking she was literally asking for all men to not speak is obtuse at best. She was asking that men stop slandering rape victims and step up to help defend them.

wow, you really are trying to mansplain it! Let me remind you that her instruction was to "Shut up."

"Shut up."

-Senator Shut Up

I certainly don't agree with this. A rumor alone should not stop a Supreme Court appointment.
There would never be another successful appointee.

Too bad for Brett that it isn't just a rumor then.

I don't begrudge the Dems almost any tactic to delay the vote on Kavanaugh given what the Reps did with Garland, almost anything would be fair came. I am somewhat surprised at the reaction here though. I'd be very surprised if folks regarded a five year old accusation of something that happened 30 years before was a good reason to not hire someone for anything outside of politics.

Also, having her to testify in front of the senate is pointless. They could accomplish everything they need by having here submit a signed statement. There's no reason to have her go through the **** of a public hearing. But then the Senator's wouldn't be able to grandstand on camera if they did that.

I don't even get this, can the FBI just arbitrarily decide which cases they want to be involved in?

No.

Don't they have to do what their bosses say?

Yes.

In fact, Trump has 2 excuses for not asking the FBI. The first was that they didn't want to be involved. Not only is that nonsense on the face of it, but it's been contradicted by the FBI themselves. The second was that the FBI doesn't do that kind of investigation. This is also untrue.

Well it has beeb been rebutted by all named witnesses, and she has changed her story already.

Zero corroboration.

Zero corroboration.... huh, what does that remind me of?

This thread is about Al Franken and his conduct. I can see the appeal of his stalwart defenders desperate to change the subject to Moore or maybe even other real sickos like Conyers, Weinstein, Weiner (who is flat out in jail right now for his attempted kiddy diddling) or an actual rapist Bill Clinton.

Ah, yes. That's the one.

I think that's what she was trying to do when she sent that letter to Feinstein in July(?). It seems to have backfired on her.

We're done. We're just done. We'll never get anything accomplished ever because both sides can just go "Whatabout when the other side did this?" forever.

Both of the major parties have or have had horrible, horrible people in them who have done terrible things. Questions of which side is "better" by whatever definition or metrics you want to use are meaningless because you don't have prove better or worse, you just have to be able to point out that somebody from the other side did something bad once and that... well I'm not sure exactly what that argument does but it seems like both sides are perfectly happy to just stay at that level forever.

So, even if her story is not true, she gains, or thinks she would gain, from an investigation. Even if her story is not true, Kavanaugh still has a lot to lose from an investigation.

I don't think so. If her story isn't true and the investigation turns up nothing, then all she's got out of it is death threats. And the investigation isn't going to publicise that time he ****** a pie in his kitchen.

And on top of that, it would just take some time.

The Anita Hill investigation took 3 days. It could have been and gone by now, had Trump just asked the FBI to investigate when this first came to light.

To be fair, Grassley had offered private questioning.

The fact that they haven't come forward doesn't really tell us much of anything, though.

One person did come forwards and say that it was quite a well-known story at their school. She did delete her statement and refuse to do press, due to the harassment she got, but she didn't retract it and, indeed, said that she still believed Ford. So that's one person who's come forwards, albeit briefly.

It sure beats actually getting something done.

The FBI had jurisdiction in the Hill/Thomas case, since they were both federal employees working in a federal office for the alleged events. It does not have jurisdiction in this case. Do you not see the potential problem of allowing the President to order the FBI to investigate allegations it has no jurisdiction over?

Given the accusation that Trump is an aspiring dictator, it's actually amusing that Democrats want to give him more power.

And .... surprise ... Trump couldn't do it.....

I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!

The radical left lawyers want the FBI to get involved NOW. Why didn’t someone call the FBI 36 years ago?

I think most people would call that a lie, quickly retracted once the press started sniffing around.

So that remains at zero
