New Prediction

I did not bring my link to reproduce initial Thread so please moderator you can merge this into appropriate thread...

Ok...There will be a huge volcano eruption in a few days not seen since Mount St Helens.

Define "a few days." Tell us exactly when it will happen.

Instead of posting vague info on a skeptic forum why don't you actually warn the people that will possibly killed due to this eruption.

You could potentially save thousands instead of mildly amusing a few posters on JREF

Are you claiming any paranormal ability is the source of this prediction?

I take it . . .

“Huge” = Bigger than the biggest Mount St Helens eruption

“Few days” = At least three and less than 6 (usually described as “half a dozen”)

The eruption will be on planet Earth and not under the sea.

I'm curious about the basis of this prediction. Is it precognition, analysis of seismic activity, pure speculation or something else?

As others have asked. Define a few days.
And while it was a good eruption that of course caused a lot of damage, I thought it wasn't all that massive as volcanoes go?
But I'm not a volcanologist.

Massive you say. Vesvius/Pomeii? Krakatoa? Worse?

Per vernacular iterations, I'd say 7 days would be called a week, and not a few days.

6 days would probably be referred to as "close to a week" or "nearly a week" and most of us would say that if someone said "week" and it was six days, we'd call it "pretty damned close".

I'd say that "a few" and "several" should be, as others have said,... Less than six days. So 5 it is as the outside parameter. And while we could haggle, I'll take anything from the moment RCF posted up to 120 hours later.

It's a risky prediction. We all know about the frequency of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, but calling for one of the largest magnitudes in recent history is definitely something that will register on the skeptic richter scale.

We better all be prepared to chow down on some crow, I'd say. (Well, because I'd also say, "Wanna bet?" There will be no such volcanic eruption.)

And.... look on the bright side. I usually don't get to start my famed Foolmewunz Countdown (never yet defeated by a prediction on these forums) until at least the hundredth post. So I'm in sort of at the beginning. It's a little over 13 hours since the OP, so we are now looking at....

107 Hours And Counting Down to Armageddon for Some Folks in Some Unnamed Location (but "on earth")

As always, XKCD has the answer:

I am quite happy to predict that the Yellowstone Caldera will blow up at some point and the result will have a huge impact on the North American Continent.

Can you define next few days? More than 3? Less than 30?

Library Lady allow me to clarify.

Thou shalt count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out, as is thirty. Once at the number three, being the third number to be reached the volcano will erupt just outside Tooting behind Tescos and all will snuff it.

At this time I would like to make a counter-prediction. No volcano larger than Mount St. Helens will erupt in the next few days.

That is all.

So boring with replies. If one is not aware as to what is happening in the world then why does one bother using a computer?

http://www.volcano.si.edu/weekly_report.cfm

That would list quite a few active volcanoes that could go off any time now. Would you care to be a TOUCH more specific?

"I predict a volcano will go off in the next week" is a near-100% shot, it's not a prediction, it's playing known odds.

All the earthquakes around Greenville, California getting to you? Or maybe the long-term activity at Clear Lake?

Specific, please, specific. Where, when, how.

ETA: Please give me credit for not pointing to a youtube of Vera Lynn.

That certainly clears it up, thank you.

Red alert issued for the Copahue volcano in Chile

Around 3,000 people living near the Copahue volcano on the border of Chile and Argentina in South America, have been ordered to evacuate the area.

Did a quick search and found this...a likely candidate...?

Sorry about the boring replies!

I, however, am most interested in your prediction, so here is what I will do ...

If your prediction comes true, then I will donate $50.00 to JREF in your name on 12 JUN 2013.

And if your prediction does not come true, then I will dontate $50.00 to JREF in my name on 12 JUN 2013.

I expect that it is quite reasonable to give your prediction a seven day window.

In either case, JREF will get $50.00 from me on 12 JUN 2013.

Thanks much and take care.
