New England Skeptics Get-Together?

By the way, if any of you want me to bring something "very British" with me, let me know, as I will be doing some shopping this weekend. I will bring a box of Croatian chocolates with me as well.

What sort of weather is it likely to be? Any idea of expected temperatures (and any idea what that is in Celsius?) Thanks!

It's still a bit far off for a decent long-term forcast--based on past history, it could be anything from a late frost (<0 C) to an early heat wave (30+ C).

When do you pack? I would be happy to check the forecast as we get closer.

Is Wine Pastilles too much to ask? Actually, any pastilles would be lovely. :)

I have a bottle of Maple Syrup set aside for you.

Wow thanks.
Wine pastilles - is that the same as wine gums? Did not realise this was only a British thing, but will happily bring some.

They're very much like Wine Gums but are stonger. And yes, very much British. Most Americans have never heard of them.

Thanks!

I have no idea how clotted cream is... it's not expensive, is it?

It is not expensive, but it is perishable, so I have a feeling it could be illegal to bring it to the USA. Will try to check.

If it's going to be trouble, don't struggle against it. Meeting you will be more than treat enough, I assure you.

*smacks self upside head* Um... Tanja... you think you could bear to bring something really unusual and rare.... a tin of tea? Real english tea? Because it occurs me that it would be a good opportunity for me to ask.

OK, my suitcases are almost packed, only two working days to go before I am on my flight to Boston.
See you all soon!

The weather is looking better & better for Friday and Saturday in Maine. Daytime high around 20 C. You'll probably still need a sweater to walk on the beach but it's going to be a nice as Maine gets in the spring. :dc_biggrin:

I think someone may have mentioned this. You can save quite a bit of money on clothes here in the states. Pack clothes that you were going to throw away and return with your suitcases full of new stuff.

I am very much looking forward to doing some shopping. Hooray for the strong pound!
(When I was in the US in 2002 I came back with an extra suitcase)

Can I bother you people for some advice? I want to buy a mobile phone (cell phone) SIM card when I get to the States. Which network do you recommend I get, and how much would it cost? Thanks.

Hmm, we don't use SIM cards much here, but the network with the best coverage in New England, in my experience, is Verizon. And I hate them.

The next choice would be Sprint, which has decent coverage. Cingular, TMobile, AT&T, and others seem to have little if any coverage, at least in Vermont.

That said, I don't know where exactly you would buy a SIM card. Of the 10 or so phones I've owned, none of them used one.

I am confused. SIM card is the phone's brain. How can you have a mobile phone without it?
Thanks for the advice with networks.

That's not how ours work. We don't even have a slot for a SIM card. Our phones won't work in Europe for the most part either. I believe SIM cards are for GSM phones, and we don't have GSM networks here. We use mostly CDMA.
