New England Skeptics Get-Together?

Hi kids,

I'd love to be there in May.

Just give me a shopping list and the coordinates, and I'll provide anyone transport, if my car is willing. (From the Boston area.)
Hi Katachresis, very happy to have you join us. I'll add you to the list and I'll assume that you are willing to share a room with someone unless I hear otherwise.
The condo where we will be mostly hanging out is Unit #7-E, Village By The Sea, Wells ME. Some of us will also be staying at The Elmwood Resort which is right next to Village By The Sea. Google either one for more details like the location, amenities, etc.
Truth in advertising statement: The Village By The Sea resort is not by the sea,it's next to the salt marsh.

I'll post more details later, feel free to PM me for special requests or odd questions. Thanks for posting that you are coming. Early May is very early in the tourist season for Wells, but any given weekend can get booked up just because the universe is chaotic. It's good to know how many units we need to reserve and for how many nights.

I'm willing to spring for a hotel room.

Village by the Salt Marsh sounds good.

Are we going to be there for the annual Slug Killing festival?

Thanks Jeff!!
Will that be a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, or a bath room? Order all 4 and we can throw in two bed rooms at no extra charge! Sorry, but the Ginsu knives included with the kitchen must be left in the kitchen when you depart.

Oh, I'm sorry to disappoint, this marsh being tidal salt water, doesn't really get much in the way of slugs. Feel free to bring your own. We could probably collect a good number of deer ticks but I thought the idea of killing some lobsters was the best proposed yet.

I'd love to come but will be moving away from RI in the next couple months and I'm not entirely sure where to yet...

I know the way to cook lobsters that kills them instantly. I usually let them have a last smoke too.

If we could only get some good Maryland crabs, they bang on the pot as they are cooked for a good 3-4 minutes. Usually there is one lone hold out just tapping away...and then IT'S TIME TO EAT!!!

Have we any ideas on how many people will be going yet, a rough guess?
About 15 people have expressed serious interest based on responses to this thread.

Have any dates been settled, yet? I mean the calendar kind.
Beady, We have reserved the first weekend of May.
We expect Tanja to be the first to arrive on Thursday, May 4.

Do you want to make your own reservations or would you like my help or suggestions Beady?

Hi all,

My name is greg. I got a PM from YoPopa today telling me about the get together. I'm originally from Connecticut, and now live in Arundel, Maine (3 towns north of Wells.) If nobody minds I like to take the oppertunity to come by meet all of you.

Don't know yet about our arrival. There are a lot of variables, including our cats. Don't want to freak them out; we'll have been gone for 3 1/2 months, by the time we get home in early April, then we leave for a weekend less than a month later.

We'd better handle our own, all things considered. I'll contact Jeff for any last minute info.

I hate to sound tentative, but we're approaching exhaustion, here, and I don't know how long it will take to recover. Try to imagine two out-of-shape, middle-aged people working all week then riding teacups and wrestling alligators all weekend, every weekend, for three months. But we're going to have fun if it kills us!

OK, I just got my flight ticket. I will be in Boston at 1pm on Thursday 4th of May. My plan is to stay in Boston overnight to have a look around and to get rid of the jet lag. So I am happy to join you people on Friday.
By the way you are now NOT ALLOWED TO CANCEL THE EVENT!
Anyone who wants to share a room (stop it! female only.) let me know.

I have Fridays off if you want the cheap ride with tour guide on your way up. We can work out details later, so you aren't publishing your itinerary for the public to see...

My plans are kind of mess right now. I'll be there, but I'm not sure of what I'll be doing. I might be in Boston the night before..which will screw up any carpool plans. I'll figure it out soon.

Also, I probably won't be sleeping at the condos. I'll be happy to chip in for the cleaning though.

Should I bring my boat/canoe? It's kind of hard to describe..it's a two person catamaran kayak. http://seaeagle.com/paddleski/435ps.asp

Might be fun in the salt marsh, if that kind of thing is allowed.

Yes, bring watercraft if we get lucky and the weather looks good. Mrs. Popa & I also have a canoe & a sit-on-top kayak. The marsh is a great place to paddle around and there is a very nice access point down by the harbor. That is only a two mile drive from our ground zero.

The sit-on-top kayak requires wearing a wetsuit, even in the calm waters of the marsh the water can be incredibly cold in May.

I'll be there just on Saturday, and I'll join Jeff in paying the cleaning cost.

Tanja, when you're in Boston on the 4th, those of us in the area could meet you for dinner, if you'd like.

I can give a couple of people rides to Wells Saturday. The Billerica stop of the commuter rail is close to my house, so we could leave here by 8:40 if people take the 8 a.m. train from North Station. When we return, it will probably be too late to catch the train, so I'd drive people home.

What else is there to do besides canoing/kayaking? I can bring tongue-in-cheek games like "Past Lives" or "Burn in Hell", plus "Robo Rally", "Ninjaburger", "Merchant of Venus". I also have "The Aristocrats" on DVD.

Thanks Scott - but I suspect I might be suffering from jetlag and therefore totally useless socially.
Edited to add: there is I believe 5 hours difference, so by dinner time (say 8pm) it will be 3am my local time.
