New England Skeptics Get-Together?

Hi, my name is Scott, and I've lived in Massachusetts all my life. I live alone with two computers, lots of books, and a large collection of games by Avalon Hill, Victory Games, and Multiman Publishing. I would love to get a dog, but I work too many hours for it to be fair for the dog. I play wargames, mainly Advanced Squad Leader, plus am an amateur astronomer and amateur magician. I'm a software engineer specializing in embedded systems.

I'm looking forward to meeting you, Tanja!

I won't introduce myself, but I will offer to pick you up at the airport if your plane is arriving late enough (I can't get there much before 7PM on a Thursday, sorry). When you figure out your flight time, let us know.

Hi. I'm Boo.:)

I've lived in New England for just over a year. I have a 15 y/o daughter, Baby Boo. I work in a medical office after 20 years of working on ambulances. It's nice to be inside and have something that resembles a normal life. When I'm not chasing after the 6 y/o twins or chauferring the 15y/o I am either reading or chatting in the JREF room in IRC.

I'm looking forward to meeting you. I think your visit is by far the best reason for a NE JREF getogether we've ever had. Not that we need an excuse;)

Boo

yeah then we can plan a more central get together soon. OR AT YOUR PLACE JEFF (did you get in some beer?)

I really, really like the idea of a get-together at Jeff's place.

I mean, I really like the idea!

Especially since everyone seems to have forgotten me. I can strike without warning and be back in front of my own 42" widescreen in less than an hour.

oh Chip, you probably are Jeff's neighbor!

Still, it's so lovely up there I'd love to go!

How's this..Vermont in October.

May in Maine. It even sounds nice.

Hello, I'm Jeff. I live sorta in the woods in a house I paid someone to build. I've been to 8 different colleges and worked 50 different jobs. Currently, I'm working for the JREF. I have a wife, two kids, two cats, three fish, and a yard full of bears, coyotes, fisher cats, and various other forms of fanged furry friends.

Hi kids,

I'd love to be there in May.

Just give me a shopping list and the coordinates, and I'll provide anyone transport, if my car is willing. (From the Boston area.)

If it were a question of food, I'm sure the supercorgi would come out on top.
Jeff, I guess my voracious, bottomless pit of a dog made an impression on you! Yes he'll eat everything in sight and will probably wrestle a bear for the right to eat birdseed. Lets see, of the strange things he'll eat - birdseed, wood, lint from the dryer vent, cardboard...

oh dear, I'm blaming Supercorgi for the weird things Dingo has been eating. Today I was trimming our mutant guinea pig (one of them is LONG LONG LONG Haired, as in it grows over her eyes and drags on the ground.). You basically just keep cutting hair until you see legs and eyes.

Dingo was EATING the hair!

EWWWW!!!!

yeah Jeff's in October!

Dog vs. bear is bad enough- bears can be ill tempered (one drop kicked my birdhouse across the lawn last spring when he couldn't find any birdseed in it) but do watch out for those fisher cats (which of course are NOT cats). They're downright vicious critters. (And now I've probably scared you all away from Vermont....)

Not until you've mentioned the one critter I neglected..

Moose? No....

Turkeys? No...

Mountain Lions? No...

Wolves? No....

Something worse...

Black flies.

They should be long gone in October (this year was the first exception I can remember since arriving in Vermont, 20+ years ago).

Or, were you talking about *inside* your house?

Actually, we don't have black flies...our property is flanked by two rocky streams..perfect black fly breeding ground. But construction has silted them up each spring, so the larvae die.

Yay erosion.

Black flies, they are NOT NATIVE!!!

Some idiot scientist brought them here to New England. WHY???
You know you have the death penalty for murders, and NOT for this scientist?

Yeah, when I found out some idiot brought them here....gggrrrrrr
