New England Skeptics Get-Together?

These cats are very slowly organizing into a herd. It may be a few more hours today before the working cats are home from work/school/snow shovelling to give their input.
The condos in Wells are available for the weekend of 5/4-5/7.
if all else fails, and there is no skeptic Get-together, I can promise Tanja a condo to herself for the weekend N/C.
So go ahead and make your plane reservations Tanja if you don't mind the idea of a private retreat which could morph into most anything.

What a generous and wonderful offer, Yo. Tanja, I can guarantee to be a tour guide at least part of the time. More as my schedule becomes more clear.

This is part of a reply today to YoPapa and Merc.

I still think that the weekend at the condo is the way to go. The only one with a really long ride is Jeff Wagg. I can give Kitty a lift from here and Rebecca can take the train. Paul is fairly close and Supercorgi has a shorter drive than I do. It would be a long drive for one day, but not for an overnighter or two.

Tanja can come out here and stay a few days if she wishes. Kitty has also offered her place. I could pick her up and take her back.

So, I say let's do it at Wells and let people come and stay for as long as they want. If they can't make it, there will be another meeting during the summer I'm sure.

I second Larry. I'm pretty flexible and will drive almost anywhere as long as it's an overnighter. A weekend with you guys would be a blast - being skeptical, playing games, watching DVDS, and just visiting. I'm sorry that it's too far for Jeff but hey, that's what you get for living up in the middle of nowhere with the moose and the bears. :D

There are others with long drives too, such as Boo, MWare, Spacefluffer, etc. but I'm willing to go with the flow if need be.

yeah then we can plan a more central get together soon. OR AT YOUR PLACE JEFF (did you get in some beer?)

Oh and Jeff, have you told your family all about this skeptic stuff? The first Pool Boy knew about it was when he called down to sign me up for the first TAM and Linda called him "Pool Boy".

He's over the shock now.

You mean you were a closet skeptic before that? Just think, Today on Maury, "Shocking Secrets You've Kept From Your Spouse." :D

no he just didn't know what JREF was and that I was calling him "Pool Boy".

He kinda likes it. It's better than GOod Humor dude.

He also thought you were or were not a skeptic. NOt that we had meetings and tshirts and coffee mugs.

He took Mr.Randi out for pizza in Boston though! In fact he along with the rest of the family are total Randi groupies.

He was converted. Well, he was a skeptic before, but he would say stuff like, "If you believe in ghosts doesn't that just mean you are stupid?"

You know it's Jerry Springer or nothing for us. Boo and Larry can be the "special surprise guests!!"

You think Jeff is in the middle of nowhere? Heck, he's in the Big City compared to my town- It's so small that we don't even have a regular "Village Idiot" ...so we all have to take turns.
BTW- My drive is 30 miles closer. Jeff and I could carpool, and I'd promise not to bring the fire truck....

Again, I am very touched by everyone's hospitality. I am sure it is going to be a wonderful weekend. I am interested in finding out more about the other people who will be present, as I never met any of you in real life.

Let me reintroduce myself.

My name really is Tanja. I currently live in London, I spent about four years in the Netherlands and I am originally from Croatia. I speak English with an accent that is neither British, Dutch nor Croatian, but something in between.
I work for a charity helping victims of crime. I am fairly quiet and so only have about 1000 posts after two and a half years of reading the JREF forums almost every day. I quite like singing, so if any of you play a guitar, I encourage you to bring it along.

There you go, that's me. What about you?

You have very good taste in avatars also.

I'm an artist that can't really draw or paint or do anything really well. But I get by. Plus, I like it a lot. Chip is totally going to help me develop my photography (and in this digital age that isn't such a funny joke anymore).

I'm the old sedate one. That will be sleeping with Larry.

I have 2 kittens that run my life and a Pool Boy who wonders how he ended up in this testosterone lacking household. Hutch is going to be my second husband, and also a DINGO dog that is from the Pesta/Scarlet household. So Dingo is a real JREF puppy.

I was born in Washington DC, and raised there and on the Eastern Shore of Maryland (before it was built up, which means when dinosaurs roamed).

I travel to Europe a bit every year while Pool Boy works there. He doesn't have a high paying job, but he likes to travel (away from all the females?) and sometimes I get to tag along for free. And I like the French and Paris...someone has to.

My life has one particularly interesting characteristic. As soon as I begin to describe it, it becomes incredibly boring. As Shirley McClain said, "There you have it. it's quantum mechanics!" Other than that I really am enjoying life.

Continue reading only if you're already in your PJs . I've lived all my life in New England, 57 years. I enjoy science, especially life science, so I thought teaching science would be a good career. Not, at least not to Jr. High kids, and not for my temperament.

I went back to cabinetmaking for the next 30+ years and it now seems that I am well enough suited to that so I could make a career of it. While I try to make up my mind about that I am doing a website with the motto of "Helping people who need woodworkers find woodworkers who need people."

The website has given me the freedom to become a stay at home dad. Therefore the Popa in YoPopa. I just wish I had kids at home. My 2 sons both left 15 +- years ago (currently London, UK and Tucson AZ).

I share the love of digital photography with Chip & Kitty. We can compare notes later. I have a few photos on my other website at: http://wellsmaine.com/scenic/scenic.html You may want to look at that just because it is of the area where the Get-Together will happen.

And I think yo-yos are cool. :yo-yo: Hence the Yo in YoPopa.

Unlike YoPapa I have not lived all my life in New England (Not yet anyway...which is a New England joke of sorts). But HAVE lived here for a long time in any event. Worked first in human resources (personnel management) and more recently in Health Physics, which is radiation safety. I'm single and when not playing with ham radio or chasing fire trucks (as might be deduced from the Forum name and avatar) I might be found hiking mountains or target shooting. I also attempt to do photography as kittynh has hinted at.

Hi, my name is Sue. And I've lived in New England all my life except for a 1 year stint when I lived in Greece during college. I'm pretty quiet too and live a pretty quiet life with my dog (The supercorgi - Louie. He's a Cardigan Welsh Corgi) and my 3 cats. I compete in dog agility competitions with Louie and also do medieval re-enactment. I like doing lots of crafts, reading sci-fi and fantasy, working in my garden, enjoying the outdoors, and traveling. I'm a software technical writer - this is my 4th career. Prior to this I was studying archaeology but decided I couldn't make a living doing it.

Looking forward to meeting you!
