National ID card

David James,

Well to start a fingerprint, and you don't require a fingerprint on drivers liscences except perhaps in california.
Evidence it will have your fingerprint please.

Then, tell me why, specifically, this is an issue.

Also, would using the quote function provide additional reason for the government to crack down on dissidents and take away our rights?

I think you misunderstand... some states have your fingerprint scanned when you get your license. I had to do it when I got mine here in Florida.

It's not displayed on the face of the card, but your fingerprint is "on" the card with other information stored in the black magnetic strip on the back.

If the gubmint went through with these National ID cards, they'd most definitely have some sort of magnetic strip containing extra info.

ETA: ...and since you need a special machine just to read that, I don't think I'd consider that much of a security or privacy breach. You'd pretty much have to already be in trouble for them to check that strip.
