National Emergency

Oh dear. From your favourite government organisation: Homeland Security: https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/publications/Refugees_Asylees_2017.pdf

Country of Nationality
In 2017, the three leading countries of nationality of persons granted either affirmative or defensive asylum were China (21 percent), El Salvador (13 percent), and Guatemala
(11 percent) (Table 7). Nationals of these countries accounted
for 45 percent of all persons granted asylum. The same
countries were also the three leading countries of nationality
for affirmative asylum grants, accounting for 43 percent of all
persons granted affirmative asylum
I guess all those Chinese refugees must have rowed over to Mexico so they could sneak across the border from there.

Or they could have...you know...come on a plane.

;)

Changing the topic slightly (Mods if this is too off topic feel free to move somewhere more appropriate); is there any limitation in what POTUS can declare as a National Emergency to by-pass congress? ...
Trump et al doesn't believe so. They think they've found their loophole. But there are federal judges ready to put the breaks on this scheme.

Chinese don't count because they aren't too brown and are model minorities...........or until we get rid of the browner people first.
Stormfront doesn't recognise brown people as "people". Makes it easier for them to compute.

Interestingly, from the same report on total refugee arrivals to the USA from 2000-2017, the country with the highest total was Burma, ahead of Iraq, Somalia and Bhutan. Also interesting, the Mexican refugee total did not make the top 15 countries.

That's not interesting at all. Why would you think that's interesting?

None of this has anything :rolleyes:to do with the border. ;)

Keep Googling random things, maybe you'll find out what your point is.

:D
Oh. Now you are trying to tell me that there are no international border controls at your international airports. Is this performance art or something? May I ask: Have you ever left the USA?

That's not what I'm trying to tell you at all. I'm telling you you believe you found some great refutation to the border emergency when you haven't and it's one of the stupidest arguments I've ever seen.

It's a Burmese invasion. And an Iraqi invasion. And a Somalian invasion. And a Bhutanese invasion. The Mexican invasion, for which Trump declared a National Emergency, is further back than 15th in line.

Because there is crisis at the US-Mexico border. Just stop dude, you're embarrassing yourself.

What border emergency?

MYTH: We are facing a national security crisis at the border.
FACT: There is no evidence of a national security crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. Our southern border cities and towns are among the safest places to live and thrive in the U.S. According to U.S. News & World Report, EL Paso, Texas, ranks 105 among the Best Places to Live and 11 among the Best Places to Retire. In the same ranking, McAllen is 115 among the Best Places to Live and 28 among the Best Places to Retire.

Not me who made it a National Emergency because of "all the many people invading from Mexico". That's Trump's excuse for declaring it, don't you remember? Too many Mexicans! Thousands of them pouring across the southern border, drugs in pockets, stealing your jobs. More "caravans" of tens of thousands of "illegals" heading north to threaten your very way of life. Overwhelming the border controls by sheer weight of numbers...

Don't you remember ANY of this??!

Airports have nothing to do with any of this.

it might help with the border emergency if Trump would appoint people to lead the relevant agencies such as Homeland and the ICE - something he has full control over.

But that assumes there is an emergency. Yes, there is back-log, but that's because of the lack of resources from the US government. Trump wants the back-log, however, so he can call it a crisis because he wants immigration to be a catalyst to turn out his racist base. Not disagreeing with you, just adding a little nuance.

Only if you ignore everything else to do with Border security nationwide. For example, there are far more border crossings by land with Canada than with Mexico. Is that a massive exodus? Or an invasion? How about a National Emergency!

You know that.
I know that.

but Trump supporters blame the Dems for his failure to bring order to the problems at the border.
That they are mostly self-inflicted due to a lack of resource, guidance, clear rules and a disrespect for the law must never be acknowledged.
