NASCAR Driver Whining over Female Driver

As for excitement, Champ Car, IRL, and Nascar I can tolerate.
Forumula One is intensely boring.

Car races were much more interesting in the old days, when the cars were piloted by horses.

Piloted? I think you probably mean "powered".

As to the Indy race, I'm real happy for Danica. But I ain't impressed by any kind of go-kart racers, Indy or F1. If you ain't swappin' paint, you ain't racin'.

[nitpick]It's "moot" and "their". Unless you're Joey Tribiani, in which case it's "moo".[/nitpick]
Tribbiani. Come on, man. If you're going to correct someone's spelling...

Sorry about the spelling.

Sara Fisher used to race in IRL, I believe. I'm sure she's been in the Indy 500 at least once.
Why no complaints then?
Is she more portly than Danica Patrick?
Who knows? Robby Gordon is backtracking today. He said his comments were directed at the IRL weight rules. Not Danica Patrick.

Nope. The horses used to dress up in goggles and leather flying helmets, and drive the race cars furiously around the track. But then the horse unions got greedy, and panda boxing became the new sport of the masses.

Actually, race cars are designed to weigh as much as possible.

???

Care to elaborate on that? Every series I know of has MINIMUM weight requirements, not maximum, since every race team would love to have a LIGHTER car than everyone else.

On the topic of the OP, while it's unclear what Robbie's motiviation was, I agree with his general position - it's always seemed fairer to me to set minimum weight rules to include the driver. I believe most series do this now - I know NASCAR and F1 do.

Cause, it's those rules that made someone come in 4th. He wasn't complaining about who came in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd!

What a joke. He knew the rules going in, and had raced before!

Maybe he's angry cause she dissed him at the bar the night before.

Perhaps Art was referring to maximizing downforce, increasing traction. Although weight is not the proper term. Obviously, it wouldn't be any big challenge to make a Formula One car into a 4-ton beast by dropping huge hunks of metal into it.

She only got to the front by not stopping for fuel when everyone else did. Not that male drivers don't try to pull the same fuel mileage trick.

I thought that strategy was a shame. I thought she had one of the faster cars out there and could have raced to the front with the engine set to full rich if she had stopped for fuel. I doubt she would have done worse than 4th, and she would have raced up there passing the boys, which would have been much more exciting and better for her reputation.

With a fast pit stop from her crew, she might have come out close enough to the front to do better than fourth. I think her team let her down there.

She got passed because her car sputtered on very low fuel.

Had the race stayed under green, she would probably have been much further back if she finished at all.

She committed a couple of rookie mistakes. Like spinning out under the yellow and taking out a few of her competitors, and stalling in the pits. But those are typical rookie mistakes that boys make too.

I think she did well, but she's being overhyped. It's not like this was her first race.

Sarah Fisher wasn't nearly as pretty, that's probably why there wasn't as much attention paid to her.

I am surprised no one has mentioned the ABC announcers line when Danica led a lap.

He said she had "Turned the trick." :D

I caught that, more than once. I turned to my wife and said, "...so to speak."

Brent Musburger, what's-his-name play-by-play guy, and Scott Goodyear on the same announcing team are almost enough to make me believe in hell.

To some extent. But a lot of it was that it was clear she actually had a chance to finish up front. If Danica had qualified 25th, I imagine a lot less attention would have been paid to her leading up to the race, and if Sarah had ever qualified 4th, I imagine she would have gotten a lot more. But probably still no FHM spreads. :D

Probably correct. I was at Indy a few years back when Sarah was on the grid. There is a traditional driver introduction prior to the race, and while everyone was greeted with a cheer from the crowd, Sarah enjoyed a roar. Some time after, I recall reading that she was the most popular driver in the series (by what standards, I don't know). Still. And all this even though she wasn't ever in a place to contend for a top finishing spot.

It seems people enjoy--rightly so, I think--being in the presence of an historical event, or the possibility of one, even if the history being made is more symbolic and slight than not.

Clearly the reason this woman is doing so well is because there is no reversing involved.;)

OK, let the custard pies commence :D

Here's worse. Some insanely stupid ABC sports interviewer, when finished talking to Dario Franchitti, said something to the effect, "You didn't win the race, but life is good. Afterall you're married to Ashley Judd and you have a helicopter!"

Play-by-play? Play-by-play? It's racing!

"...And they're driving. Oop, they turned the corner. They're driving some more. Whoa, nice barrell roll! And we're driving. Another corner. Driving some more..."

I have two words....

Buddy Baker

When I would watch NASCAR I would have to guess what he was announcing.

There is one NASCAR driver that said, "Green recliner" in an ad. It took me at least 5 viewings of this commercial before I knew what he was saying.
