The MythBusters have finally given in to the pressure the producers have been under for several years. The show asks the viewers to send their favorite myth in via the internet for the show to consider. Upon receiving their 1 millionth request dealing with the various September 11th theories, the producers finally cracked…

The 2 hour special slated for an unreleased date in 2009 and will be titled WORLD TRADE CENTER. The program will feature the top 2 most requested WTC theories, controlled demolition and CGI planes - more commonly known as TV fakery. The show will also feature a 20 minute tribute to the Pentagon missile theory conducted by Kari Byron, Grant Imahara, and Tory Belleci. Meanwhile, the stars of the show Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman will be putting their reputation on the line with the WTC experiments.

The show will feature a 1/3 scale replica of the towers at an estimated $7.2 million price tag. The replica is rumored to have been built outside of the United States to avoid airspace restrictions that they would have encountered at home. The location of the replica towers has remained a secret from the press as gag orders were imposed on the private contractors. The total cost of the production has reportedly amounted to a whopping $25 million, which the Discovery Channel believes it will reclaim by selling Super Bowl priced ads during the 2 hour event.

I can't wait, though I can't quite imagine how they'll approach this subject in terms of their usual goofy humor. The only real humor to be mined from it is in the wackiness of the CTs they'll be debunking.

Which is the sort of humour only the laughing dog can depict:

I'm having a hard time believing this, particularly the "Super Bowl priced ads" part. Smells like a hoax to me.

Me too. Especially with the poor editing job done by splicing 9/11 footage in with the myth busters. I call BS.

Great... Now give me a link to an OFFICIAL press release and I just might believe it!

(Not that I am against the idea of the show, but I'm very suspicious about the sums of money mentioned here...)

Hmmm, good point.

I did find the article posted at a twoofy forum.

At the Mythbusters forum there is a message saying:

Please refrain from posting any show ideas that are 9/11 related. These are inappropriate because they are emotionally charged and cause discord among the members of the board.

This includes but is not limited to -

Planes crashing into buildings
Jet fuel melting steel beams
Cell communication on an air plane.

Again these are EXAMPLES and NOT INCLUSIVE of the ideas extrapolated from conspiracy theories. These topics are not going to be tested on the show.

Thank you for your cooperation on this subject.

Some of the footage looked familiar from the "plane on a conveyor belt" episode. Hardly relevant to 9/11.

Oh, man. I hope it's not a hoax. Then again, I am very gullible... at least that's what the cashier at McDonalds told me.

I have to call BS too.

If the Mythbusters were to do something like this, it would call for at least three sets of WTC Tower replicas: one control, on aircraft impact model and one CD model. The models would have to have the same floor plans as the originals, would have to be filled with furniture, office supplies, automobiles, in short everything that was found in the WTC on September 11th would need to be replicated. Secondly, 1/3 scale aircraft would have to be flown into the models to make an accurate test.

The cost of this is way out of the price range for most major motion picture studios. To give you an estimate, one building I recently worked in was sold in 2006 for $148,000,000. It's a 36 story building, roughly the third of the size of a WTC tower.

Let me just point out that building a 1/3 scale model of a WTC Tower, using accurate methods and materials, would be absurdly expensive. At 21m x 21m x 139m, and a total of 16,000 m2, even a single Tower would be comparable to (and much taller than) than the real-life, frequently discussed Windsor Madrid. No way this can be done on a $7M budget without cutting all kinds of corners.

Some tests can be done in scale (Dr. Quintiere, in particular, has done one) but it's much trickier than it looks.

A 1/3 scale replica would mean building something like this:

21 m x 21 m x 139 m

Times 2.

If they did do a show, why in the hell would they include tv fakery? That is extremely easy to debunk and even stupider than controlled demolition.

Oops, I didn't say sorry.

Sorry. :(

In my defence, I did put quotation marks around the title. :boggled:

Hey, no sweat at all.

You provided a great example of how someone can change their mind about something they read at a truther site. If only more were like you...
