"Mythbusters to air mega hitpiece on 9/11 truth"

The sad fact was, even if someone was willing to lay down 25million+ dollars to do this, the results would be /handwaved by diehard believers anyhow. It would be an enormous waste of money and resources.

total bogus article.

1) they wouldn't spend that kind of money, to debunk a theory (any theory)
2) discovery knows they wouldn't earn back money on super bowl ads seeing that an ad would COST them $25 million to do.

I posted a message about the article in the OP to the Mythbusters forum in the "Mythbusters in the News" thread, but received this message:

and its been reiterated too many times, they will NEVER EVER do any show concerning conpsiracy theories for 9/11

Which is a shame, because something like a Popular Mechanics style debunking from the Mythbusters is something I've been hoping they'd do. Maybe they're working on ways around directly debunking the CTs, as evident in the recent "thermite Vs SUV" episode.

IIRC they go to thrift stores to buy second-hand toasters for some of their projects. Now they suddenly travel to another country and spend $7.2 million.

I think the Moon myths episode made the "twoofers" jealous, even though it proved the myths to be myths.

what a huge waste of money. dont they realize that NOTHING can convince the truthers that they are wrong?

i feel bad for these guys.

Yes I am pretty sure they are well aware that nothing would convince the crazed lunatics. Did you read the thread?

They were adamant they would never do the moon landing stuff and finally they relented and did that so I wouldn't be surprised if they do one day do stuff on 9/11. However it wouldn't be on the scale of what was presented here. It sure would be a sight to see though. I can just picture Jaime out there directing tower cranes hoisting up steel for the "mini twins" and Adam screwing around with the iron workers that are putting it together.

But a $25 million Mythbusters episode????? In my dreams.

But just think of all the EXPLOSIONS they could do...

I doubt this very much. There are too few left in the conspiracy movement for them to have any reason to produce such a program. For the general public who aren't even aware of the conspiracy movement, if they saw this on TV they would think. WTF? Why are they doing this? The premise is nonsense to begin with. and turn the channel.

and no they are not building a "scale model' as i am certain the staff know the effects are not scalable. They didn't get a "millionth request" maybe low hundreds tops. (excluding repeat requests from the same adamant truthers) although they may have received a request from a brazilian.

i think it would cost easily $50 million to build an exact 1/3 model of the wtc. i doubt they would make such an investment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a 1/3 scale model of the WTC (not counting the spire) be 456 ft? Taller than 3 Statue of Liberties (151ft each).

If they did do a show, why in the hell would they include tv fakery?

Good point. Even the "regular" kooks think the "TV fakery" kooks are insane... or disinfo. Also, have any of their experiments involved expertise in video editing? Does anyone on that team* have those skills?

* And by that I mean the faces in front of the camera, not behind it. Sorry, folks. ;)

It just goes to show this is just a fantasy from some truther, using typical truther math and "common sense". Completely pulling numbers out of their arse and not even doing simple math and calculations or reasonable cost estimates.

I wish this were true, but it just seems too much like a hoax. A 1/3rd scale model of the Twin Towers, at $7.2 million??? The original Twin Towers cost, I believe, about $300 million, which in today's money would be well over a billion dollars (still a bargain, considering just the one Freedom Tower is at a cost of over $3 billion). A 1/3rd scale model would be, at LEAST, in the hundreds of millions of dollars, perhaps over a billion. The towers would also be well over 400 feet tall.

Also, the part where they say they're building the towers in secret in another country just SCREAMS BS. And it took nearly a decade to build the original towers, yet this article makes it sound like it's just something they're assembling together in a few months. One more thing, even if they were going to do this experiment, they probably wouldn't construct the entire towers, just the impacted sections where the fires were and perhaps the floors above. There are just too many things about this article that screams BS.

Just to beat the already dead horse:

Why would anyone invest that much money in two buildings that large whose sole purpose is to be knocked down?
