Cont: Musk, SpaceX and future of Tesla II

"Galaxy Brain" and his "scam" rocket company have been asked to retrieve astronauts from the space station that were stranded there by Boeing's Starliner.

NASA has given Boeing $5.6 billion for the commercial crew program and they have not managed one successful crewed flight.

NASA has given SpaceX $3.1 billion for the same program and they have managed 13 successful crewed flights.

I think for reasons that are obvious, the grown ups are more in charge at his spaceship business than his toy car business

Good news everybody, perhaps the simplest use-case for full self driving i.e. driving in a one way tunnel where you have complete control of the entire environment can't be done. They can't make it work in the Las Vegas Loop.

If anybody wants evidence that Elon Musk lies his pants off, this is surely it.

pretty recently filed amended suit by aaron greenspan has evidence of large amount of financial fraud in tesla. basically, inflate the stock to hit that milestone to trigger his giant pay package, that he was later denied. the data comes from a former technician that was granted whistleblower in norway, lifting an injunction against him.

That video ain't gonna hunt.

It wasn't meant to. I was providing him with the most interesting point in the video, the two minute segment of the cars going around in the loop. He complained about the last video I posted as being too long, so I shortened it.

Here's the full version. But I don't think he'll watch the full version.

I don't think the yt tag supports timestamps.

Dang. Well it starts at 12 minutes 45 seconds to 15 minutes 15 seconds.
Essentially every car had zero passengers in them. So it's all for appearances.

PS: I don't own any Tesla stock, but if I did I would sell covered calls on them and let the market sell the shares. Right now the price for the right to sell a share of Telsa stock at $250 a share all the way out to 2026 December 18 is running over $60 a share. $60 over $210 is an instant 24% return. Maybe buy some puts at $100 a share for $10 each and buy safe large corporate bonds with the rest. Basically take some of the risk off the table.

Los Angeles firefighters rushed to hospital after huge truck explosion
A truck’s fuel tank exploded on Thursday in a Los Angeles neighborhood, sending a fireball into the air and injuring nine of the 10 firefighters responding to the blaze, including two critically, fire officials said.

All nine firefighters were rushed to Harbor-UCLA medical center and were stabilized, and one of the critical patients had to be intubated and airlifted to a burn unit at Los Angeles General medical center, said Dr Molly Deane, a trauma surgeon...

The tractor was fueled by compressed natural gas carried in two 100-gallon (378-liter) tanks, one of which exploded six minutes after firefighters arrived... “The ball of flame was as high as these telephone poles, and it actually did explode one of the transformers nearby,” the fire captain Erik Scott said, adding that the second fuel tank was “still off-gassing"

firefighters should know the procedures for dealing with EV fires, just like they should know how to deal with gas-powered vehicle fires. Each has its own hazards and methods of extinguishing the flames. Spraying water onto any powered electrical device is a good way to make it burst into flames. The correct way to put out a lithium battery fire is to cool it down with a large amount of water.

I sometimes have to dispose of old lithium-polymer batteries that we use in our drones (formerly called 'radio control model aircraft'). The method I use is to hammer a chisel through the battery to short out the plates and rapidly discharge any remaining electrical energy. Sometimes - if the battery is not discharged beforehand - it catches fire. I then simply drop the battery in a bucket of water, which extinguishes it immediately.

BTW I have tried discharging Lipo batteries by putting them in a bucket of salty water, which some people recommend. It doesn't work well because electrolysis forms a coating over the contacts which slows down the discharge. It could take weeks to fully discharge a battery this way. They don't catch fire either...

It must be a difficult decision for the firefighters when approaching a burning car: is it gasoline-powered or electrical? Is it a hydrogen car with batteries? What kind of batteries are we talking about? and so on …

how to slowly cool a 10000 lb truck that’s on fire on the roadside, or even worse in a garage, without spraying any water probably presents its own set of challenges

Elon Musk And SpaceX Are Briefing With Regulators Over Starship's Launch Delay

"We will never get humanity to Mars if this continues," wrote Musk in a post on X. The billionaire said earlier this month that he expected the first uncrewed Starship flights to Mars to take place in two years, with crewed flights following two years after.

In a statement to Business Insider, FAA spokesperson Steven Kulm confirmed a final license determination for Starship's fifth flight is not expected before late November.

...

In recent months, the rocket company has faced scrutiny over its impact on the environment. CNBC reported in August that regulators in Texas had found that SpaceX had repeatedly released pollutants into nearby bodies of water.

Mars in two years he said. Hmm.
