Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

There's a Mexican place in my town called La Taqueria that serves pretty authentic Mexican food. They even have an all-you-can-eat buffet where you can order as much food as you want. If I wasn't short on money I'd celebrate there. Maybe when TACO finally croaks.

I feel like to be "in the know" you would have to know more than numbers = weed. Perhaps I'm the odd one out, but I bet you could go up to 50 people outside of a bank and ask, "Do you recognize 420?"

They'd say, "Yes."

"Do you know how it originated and the relevance?" and I would bet a large amount of money the answer would be "no".

Social Security is still around. The current financial state seems to be worsening, yes, but that's a slightly different matter.

With that said, Musk's attacks on SS were nothing truly new. The longstanding Republican Two Santas strategy has long been a mainstay of Republican politics, after all, and one of the main goals of that is the elimination of Social Security and similar programs. What Musk did was entirely in line with that strategy.

Anybody who is using the forum the way it is designed can see a full preview with the website clearly identified. Xenforo has functions to counter exactly the kinds of issues you bring up. And you know for a fact that I'm on board with your Clean Link campaign. The forum cleans links automatically.

That’s not what is meant by a bare URL. The poster was talking about posting a URL without any accompanying text. On that point, I agree with him.

There is accompanying text in the preview. If you're not seeing the preview, then you're not using the forum properly.

That's good when the preview actually works; it doesn't on all sites. The CBC and the New York Times are notable exceptions.

The forum software remembers the preview text (but not necessarily the image.) That's good, because if the link disappears from the web the preview text is still visible. But anyone clicking through to won't see the full text. Ergo, if what you really wanted to say was within the link itself, that could be lost. Hence why I recommend reposting the relevant bits yourself.

And you know for a fact that I'm on board with your Clean Link campaign.

Not all the time. Some sites actively push back on the attempt to generate a preview.

My initial post was based on the idea of digital preservation: so long as this forum works and is accessible, so should the user generated content. There is no guarantee the preview text and the linked content will remain available.

My points need to be re-worked in light of the facts previews often are sufficient and are preserved even if the URL disappears.

In those cases I add more context. I've been doing this for a while, you know. I can use the Preview button. I know when the site is going to preview and when it isn't. In this case, it was The Guardian, which I know previews correctly, because I've posted links to it many times before.
