L'avenue de Cop-Killer
...I'm just trying to find out how this guy got so many supporters. What do they think is so compelling about the case for his innocence?
You'd think there'd be some correlation between those two questions, wouldn't you? Hardly seems fair, otherwise.
But a compelling "case for innocence" is usually not the essential ingredient in these situations. There are any number of people, rotting in prison and infinitely more likely to be innocent than Mumia, for whom no one is ever going to lift a finger.
In reality, these things are often
anti-death penalty campaigns by proxy. As such, the question of actual guilt or innocence is secondary for many of the people drawn to them. As long as the protagonist has a
personality that is compelling, that's sufficient to be drafted as poster boy for the cause. And damn the torpedoes, and any inconvenient facts.
As Exhibit B, I'd reference the campaign in which Hank Skinner is playing the starring role. Hank (who no one will deny can talk a lick) is one of the guiltiest men currently residing on Death Row, USA. But that ain't stopping more than a few ***** shovelling shills from opting out of the evidence and fabricating whatever stories they think they can get away with in pursuit of their agenda.
