At the height of the Watergate investigations, there were still people like Trent Lott denying Nixon's involvement. Lott was STILL claiming it wasn't Nixon, but was only his staff, despite the fact that Dick was on tape admitting that he could get money to pay for the coverup if needed.

Make no mistake, Trump could be videotaped shooting someone on 5th avenue and they'd come up with an excuse to vote against impeachment.

Linky.

I don't think it will legally get Trump, even if he violated the law. He's above the law until Republican Senators determine otherwise.
Seems likely. I think it more likely the House finds stuff analyzing his Tax affairs. But I think it will all come out after he is no longer president. I think there will be many books written about the stuff we are not seeing - but after he has gone (i.e. lost all his power).

This article is short, but covers how Whitaker was groomed by Sen. Grassley, as well as how he targeted liberals.

Whitaker's PERFECT to work for Trump. He's made of the same loathsome cloth: no morals, no integrity, and will do anything he's told.
Grassley is just as bad. Can't stand him. He's everything I find abhorrent in a politician...and in a person.

If Trump resigns, will he still be pursued legally? He certainly won't have any support from anyone after he does so.

Isn't continuing to be the unindictable President the best card that he has, now, until seriously offered a deal for a general pardon for everything by someone else?

My thought is that the people charging him would go, "Eh, he's gone. Let's not waste our time on him any more."

I wouldn't be surprised if he fled to Russia when his time as president ran out.

I would have thought Saudi Arabia with its obscene wealth, institutionalised racism and sexism and openly acknowledged state censorship would be more the Dolt’s bag.

Trump in the totalitarian Muslim country? He'd be beheaded by the end of the first day.

Cohen flew out to Washington with his criminal defense attorney today for, what is rumored to be, a meeting with Mueller's team.

Jim Corsi says he will be indicted for basically perjury.
Drip.Drip.Drip.
If there's a more repulsive, sniveling, CTist scumbag than Corsi, I don't know who that person is. (Not counting Trump that is.) He's a cohort of Roger Stone.

For those unfamiliar with Corsi's rhetorical stylings, he was the co-author of the John Kerry swiftboat hit piece.

The first legal challenge (of many that are being prepared) has been brought against Whitaker:

Under Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the Trump administration had stopped defending key parts of the Affordable Care Act in court on the grounds that the law became unconstitutional when Congress repealed the tax penalty for individuals' failure to buy health insurance.

Maryland filed suit against Sessions challenging that position.

But now that Sessions is no longer attorney general, Maryland is buttressing its argument. The state contends that Whitaker was unlawfully named acting attorney general, and so he has no authority to respond to their lawsuit.

The state seeks a preliminary injunction that prevents the federal government from responding to the suit while Whitaker appears as acting attorney general. Instead, Maryland requests a declaration that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is the acting attorney general.

Linky.

In other news, contrary to word out originally, Whitaker will check if he needs to recuse:

Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker will consult with Justice Department ethics officials about “matters that may warrant recusal” amid pressure from Democrats to step aside from overseeing the special counsel’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Whitaker is “fully committed to following all appropriate processes and procedures,” including consulting with senior ethics officials about his “oversight responsibilities and matter that may warrant recusal,” Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec said in a statement Monday.

...

Schumer, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats sent a letter Sunday to Lee Lofthus, an assistant attorney general and the department’s chief ethics officer, asking whether he had advised Whitaker to recuse himself.

Linky.

It would be hilarious if he did end up recusing.
