That's my point. They aren't investigating a crime, it's a fishing expedition.

Perhaps you need reminding of the scope of the Special Investigation

ORDER NO. 3915-2017
APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL COUNSEL TO INVESTIGATE RUSSIAN INTERFERENCE WITH THE 2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AND RELATED MATTERS

By virtue of the authority vested in me as Acting Attorney General, including 28 USC §§ 509, 510, and 515, in order to discharge my responsibility to provide supervision and management of the Department of Justice, and to ensure a full and thorough investigation of the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, I hereby order as follows:

(a) Robert S. Mueller III is appointed to serve as Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice.

(b) The Special Counsel is authorized to conduct the investigation confirmed by then-FBI Director James B. Corney in testimony before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on March 20, 2017, including:

(i) any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump; and

(ii) any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation; and

(iii) any other matters within the scope of 28 C.F.R. § 600.4(a).

(c) If the Special Counsel believes it is necessary and appropriate, the Special Counsel is authorized to prosecute federal crimes arising from the investigation of these matters.
(d) Sections 600.4 through 600.10 of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations are applicable to the Special Counsel

Now, to fully understand the powers of the Special Counsel, I suggest you read the provisions of 28 CFR 600.4 thru 600.10

600.4 - Jurisdiction
600.5 - Staff.
600.6 - Powers and authority
600.7 - Conduct and accountability.
600.8 - Notification and reports by the Special Counsel.
600.9 - Notification and reports by the Attorney General.
600.10 - No creation of rights.

Of special note is 28CFR600.4(a)

§ 600.4 Jurisdiction.
(a) Original jurisdiction. The jurisdiction of a Special Counsel shall be established by the Attorney General. The Special Counsel will be provided with a specific factual statement of the matter to be investigated. The jurisdiction of a Special Counsel shall also include the authority to investigate and prosecute federal crimes committed in the course of, and with intent to interfere with, the Special Counsel’s investigation, such as perjury, obstruction of justice, destruction of evidence, and intimidation of witnesses; and to conduct appeals arising out of the matter being
investigated and/or prosecuted
.

(This is where Manafort ran into trouble, witness tampering to try to stymie the investigation)

Once you heave read ALL of the above, THEN come back here and attempt to make your argument that this is a "fishing expedition"!!

Sadly, that belief reflects even the 'deep thinker' GOPers in general and on this forum.

It's as if they can't fathom that their Dear Leader isn't treated as holy and untouchable by the media and the law.

Mueller's Office Notifies FBI Of Alleged Scheme Involving Harassment Claim

The office of Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller has notified the FBI about an alleged scheme in which a woman was offered payment to make false sexual misconduct charges against Mueller.

A spokesman for Mueller confirmed the referral on Tuesday in a statement.

News organizations including NPR have received information about claims related to the alleged scheme. Reporters have so far not been able to verify them.

When the special counsel's office became aware of them last week, it alerted the FBI, said spokesman Peter Carr.

The FBI declined to comment.

As or those guilty pleas so what? It's just something flashy to wave for the press and libs.

Even if it was, so what? The FBI and DoJ are allowed to conduct fishing expeditions.

There are social media rumors floating about that Mueller is about to get saddled with a sexual harassment claim by a nonexistent or incorrectly identified former associate. Partially to smear Mueller of course, but also to discredit any journalists that pick the story up, the claim having been shopped to several already.

Kudos to you for the heads-up.

Yep, the entire Mueller investigation must be ignored because Bob might have had sex at some point.

Holy carp. That's evil, and it probably would have been a very effective way to further undermine the investigation.

In another era's FBI, we could have had a #Freehtoo movement.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller Accused of Rape

"On Thursday, November 1, at the Rosslyn Holiday Inn at noon, we will reveal the first of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's sex assault victims. I applaud the courage and dignity and grace and strength of my client."

-- Jack Burkman (Oct 30, 2018)

It's time to take a close look at Robert Mueller's high school yearbook, it may contain incriminating evidence.

Mueller's office confirmed that they learned of the scheme from several journalists who were approached by a woman who said she had been offered $20,000 to make sexual assault allegations against Mueller, The Atlantic reported.
The unnamed woman in a recent email to multiple journalists wrote that a man who said he worked for GOP activist Jack Burkman asked her “to make accusations of sexual misconduct and workplace harassment against Robert Mueller” in exchange for the money.

A company called “Surefire Intelligence” has ties to this Mueller smear. Jacob Wohl denied having ties to Surefire. Surefire’s official phone number redirects to a voicemail box registered to Jacob's mom.

When you try to cook up a fake website for a fake company as part of a conspiracy involving wire fraud and obstruction of justice, they generally advise against putting your name in the registration record.

Hilarious.

Burkman heads the organization American Decency, a conservative organization that claims to have 3.62 million members, though this claim is unverified. The organization drew media attention when Burkman announced plans to protest the Dallas Cowboys signing of Michael Sam, the first publicly gay player to be drafted in the NFL, stating "We cannot just stand idly by as Christian values and morals are trampled. We will do whatever we can to preserve family values in this country."[11][12][13] Burkman called for legislation that would prohibit homosexuals from playing in the NFL. This proposed legislation was never formally introduced in the House of Representatives and never received a vote.[9]

It's a little early to put much faith in the allegations that someone was offered money to do this. I don't think that much corroboration has come forth.

That's not to say that Mueller made this up but that there may have been a rumor going around which he rightly passed off to the FBI.

Let's wait and see.

https://twitter.com/AricToler/status/1057352982768074753 first one of a thread

Looking into the employees for "Surefire Intelligence" on LinkedIn, and it's not a promising start for this being a legit place.

Surefire Intelligence's "Tel Aviv Station Chief" is an Israeli supermodel

Surefire Intelligence's LA "Private Investigator" is British model/photographer Nick Hopper.

Surefire Intelligence's "Head of Government Relations" also works as a model for stock photos.

Surefire Intelligence's "Financial Investigator" in Zurich is Christoph Waltz. What a great hire!

Surefire Intelligence's "Deputy Director of Operations" is a minister from Michigan.

the rest of the thread is *very* instructive

All of a sudden, when Jack Burkman reveals that there are credible accusations against Robert Mueller, the media spins up a narrative that "women" were offered payment.

Who are these women that say they were offered payment? It looks like they DON'T EVEN EXIST.

And if you can’t trust the guy who promised proof of Seth Rich’s death being done by Democrats who can you trust?

I'm sure this is a black flag operation. Mueller made up the conspiracy lie himself in order to be able to claim it was the GOP/Trump trying to discredit him.

That's true; but the allegation that a woman was offered money to make up a story came out yesterday, and allegedly Mueller was made aware of it a week ago. Whereas Burkman first made his announcement today. So it's not a matter of the harassment complaint coming out first, and then leftist media finding someone to claim it was phony as a response.
