Nope enemies requires an actual shooting war. It's why the Rosenberg's could not be charged with treason during the cold war, and why the espionage and sedition laws were created. You can pretend that 200 years of jurisprudence doesn't matter but that would make you a total idiot.

I'm pretty sure it would have to be a declared war. At least, I believe that is why Jane Fonda was never charged with treason for collaborating with North Vietnam. Vietnam was certainly a shooting war, but the US never actually declared war on North Vietnam. In any event, I'm pretty sure that Russia does not qualify as an "enemy" of the US, at least as far as charging Trump (or anybody else) with treason for colluding with them.

This is all nonsense now. Nowhere does it say, it must be with a country where the war was declared. And lots of people said Fonda's acts were treasonous. Personally, I think Fonda's acts were shameful and really really stupid. But she didn't collaborate with the North Vietnamese. It's not that she had any intelligence to share with them. Trump's ACTIONS in regards to Russia are far worse. But he also won't get charged with treason either....even though his actions were treasonous and a betrayal of his oath.

That may happen, but they would have to be very stupid to let the case get to that point. Giving up and saying that the settlement was invalid as someone already pleaded guilty to felonies involving it might happen.

It really depends on what documents she has on him. It has to be something pretty remarkable for it to be worth him fighting. Of course that depends on there being a rational policy in the Trump house, so I wouldn't bet on it.

Except of course, the case has beenn amended to include claims of defamation against Trump and Cohen.

Treason is defined explicitly in its own clause of the Constitution:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

Only a handful of Americans have ever been convicted of treason. That doesn't mean that Trump hasn't possibly violated all kinds of other laws involving campaign finance, money laundering, bribery etc. But treason was never on the table.

You misunderstand me. I said his actions were 'treasonous'. Not that charges would be filed. There is a difference between what a word means colloquially and whether Trump could be convicted of treason.

Ugh. The idea that Corsi has some useful information is not evident from his past work. I'm afraid this will just grant him undeserved credibilty among the kook right.
Yet Mueller seems to think he has something. Perhaps it's not about his 'past work', but stuff he hasn't told the World about.

Gray told NBC News he expects his client will be questioned about his contacts and communications with Stone.

Questions have long swirled about Stone's possible interactions with WikiLeaks and hacker Guccifer 2.0 during the 2016 campaign.

Anyhow it's all good, whether Corsi has any useful information or not. Because...
Prior to the 2016 presidential election he was a source for Trump's incorrect claims that Barack Obama was not born in the U.S
Now that Corsi is cooperating with the investigation, I bet Trump will turn on him. I don't think this will increase his credibility among the kook right - more likely they will see him as a traitor to the cause.

I am sure he would love for everybody to think that, but the only scoops Corsi has ever gotten right are the ones he takes out his cat's litter box.

I am sure that Corsi's contribution to the Birthers was a farrago of lies and quote mines. Let's remember that just before his Birther and Truther phase, Corsi was a big believer in the North American Union nonsense.

All they want from Corsi is Roger Stone's ass. Stone's a pompous dickwad and braggart and they're going after everyone who so much as nodded hello to him in a hallway. He's bound to have said something self-serving to someone. From the number of Roger's buddies they've gone after it seems that Mueller's got a fairly reliable informant and he's just looking to nail it shut. What he may have done or said? I'd assume it has to do with just how and when he got to know Wikileaks and Guccifer.

The Rosenbergs gave Stalin the secret of the bomb - a clearer case of treasonous behaviour would be hard to find.

However, even that wasn't treason according to the Constitution, so the precedent is pretty clear that Trump did not commit treason as defined in the Constitution.

I thought they were found guilty of treason and executed?
