From the ACLU:

"Do I have to answer questions asked by law enforcement officers? No. You have the constitutional right to remain silent. In general, you do not have to talk to law enforcement officers (or anyone else), even if you do not feel free to walk away from the officer, you are arrested, or you are in jail. You cannot be punished for refusing to answer a question. It is a good idea to talk to a lawyer before agreeing to answer questions. In general, only a judge can order you to answer questions."
Excuse me while I do yet another victory lap to the seething dismay of Liberals everywhere.

Chris B.

This doesn't contradict what Phantom said at all. He blatantly said you had a right to refuse to answer questions, but you don't have a right to refuse to be questioned when you're a suspect.

This is basic reading comprehension. What you've posted here is a red herring and deserves little to no debunking. You hilited something that literally proves you wrong and proves Phantom right.

I dig it.

ETA: Oh, Danth's Law is a thing too. You should read about it because you're personifying it right now. We had another member that did this, but with a little bit more gusto.

That's exactly how it works in the U.S. Once a citizen invokes the 5th at the beginning of questioning, the session is over. Likewise for testimony in criminal cases. The accused is not required to take the stand.

As long as one does not waive this Right either directly or by prior action or testimony indirectly, a citizen CANNOT be compelled to testify against himself if he feels that testimony may be used in some way to incriminate him.

And that's a fact.

Chris B.

No, that's only true if you are the defendant in a criminal trial. Witnesses are required to testify and can only apply the 5th for specific questions. The Mueller investigation was not a criminal trial, there were no defendants, and no one can use the 5th to entirely avoid testifying.

He's going to give us some carefully worded language which legally-speaking will translate to "Trump is a dick and should be in jail," but it won't say that explicitly so the media won't have any juicy sound bites to play and we'll all have forgotten about this tomorrow.

This.

Basically we're about to get a long form apology in everything but those words.

Why the laughing? He has completed the job he was hired to do and delivered his report. There is nothing left for he and his team to do.

(Unless I misunderstood and he has acknowledged that he is gay. I can see you laughing about that.)

They think that since he's closing that means that Trump did nothing wrong. Trump supporters truly don't understand what happened in the Mueller report.

I wonder on what basis Mueller believes that it's appropriate for him to not say anything else beyond what is in his report, especially to Congress? Congress might well be interested in, say, whether he was constrained inappropriately by Barr as he finished the report. Knowing that - one way or the other - might be useful to Congress, and that would go beyond the information in the report.

So why might Mueller apparently think that it's beyond Congress to ask him about that, or that its his right to not answer such questions.

Mueller clearly believes he was not independent of the DoJ. That sucks.

He spends particular emphasis on the criminal Russian election interference. All those brainwashed masses that keep repeating there was no crime ergo their couldn't have been obstruction are ignoring the fact Trump obstructed investigation into the Russian interference.

No, the Mueller investigation was a coup attempt and the coup failed. This is why the Leftists are so upset.

<snip>

A Coup by his picked Deputy AG, using a lifelong Republican?

I don't see where the Lefists come into it...

Leftists are so clever, they can get lifelong Republicans to do their bidding as well as people Trump appointed.

No, No. No.

You just don't get it, do you? They aren't real Republicans.

They are 'sleepers'. Trained rigorously from early childhood to speak and act like Real Republicans™, all the while being indoctrinated into the evil Leebral mindset. And then cleverly inserted into the Republican hierarchy where they wait ... like spiders ... as their handlers use the vast powers of the Deep State to advance them to positions of power.

And then, when the appropriate moment arrives ... they strike!!!

It's all very obvious.

 (Added as a precaution.)

Trump tweeted:

"Nothing changes from the Mueller Report. There was insufficient evidence and therefore, in our Country, a person is innocent. The case is closed! Thank you."

So even he is now walking it back to "insufficient evidence" rather than "no evidence."

I believe it was Seth Abrams who said that the problem is (as other posters have pointed out) that people expect some sort of Agatha Christie drawing room mystery-style grand reveal. As Abramson put it, they picture journalists walking in on Trump doing collusion-ish things on his laptop, with Putin sitting on his lap. It unfortunately doesn't work that way.

It's a sad sign of the post-fact world we live in that Mueller can release a report saying collusion happened, and the trumpkins rejoice because they honestly believe the report clears Trump :( . Makes me very worried about the future about American and European democracies.

Trump's the kind of guy to brag about getting off on a technicality.

Trump's the kind of guy to brag about getting off on a gym sock if you give him the chance. Part of the reason I was shocked he had a gag order about his experience with Stormy. I assumed everyone he knew would have already known about the events in detail.
