MSNBC's On Screen State of The Union Countdown Clock.

That countdown timer is actually pretty handy, I don't get why Cicero is so offended by it.

I guess I should thank him for informing me about it, though. Don't want to miss the drinking game.

Perhaps embarrassing to Belgians, but hardly boring.
Embarassing, nah. But seriously, boring as ****. If you don't agree, by all means visit it and prove me wrong, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Are you kidding? The media was asking Press Secretary Gibbs when the SOTU would be and all he could say was that it wouldn't pre-empt the "Lost" episode on February 2, 2010. When it became painfully apparent to POTUS Obama, the head of the Democratic Party, that the health care bill was not going to be passed this month or next, there was no longer any reason for any delay.

That's a funny way of admitting you were wrong.

When you first made the assertion that Obama had postponed his speech, I pointed out that the date showed that your assertion was premature at best.

Turns out I was right.

Frankly, this is your fault, Cicero. You have spent most of your time in the forum carving out a conservative "down with democrats" niche. When you criticize MSNBC, people are going to assume you are criticizing liberalism because that's just what you do. In fact that's pretty much ALL you do here. Don't blame them for your reputation.

Imagine criticizing liberalism in the JREF political forum. How outrageous! But you also have yet to explain how criticizing MSNBC translates into hatred of POTUS Obama?

The only thing amusing is your obstinacy in refusing to acknowledge that POTUS Obama is head of the Democratic Party and that the Obama Administration held up announcing the date for the SOTU until they knew if they were going to have a health care bill, or not. Perhaps The New York Times can enlighten you, but I doubt it.

"In the televised speech to the nation, Mr. Obama will outline his priorities for the coming year as well as recount what he believes are the achievements from his first year in office. Speech writers have been working on the address for weeks, but the date had not been set, pending the outcome of the health insurance legislation in Congress."

No argument with your self-appraisal. Since you are the target audience for MSNBC, can you explain why they feel the need for countdown clocks to usher in POTUS Obama Suds Summit or the SOTU?

I have no frakking idea; I don't watch MSNBC. If I had to guess, I'd speculate it's because the media as a whole seem to be in a massive competition to see who can throw the most blinkenlights and doodads on the screen.

ETA: Seriously. What reason on Earth could there possibly be for anyone to care about this? Why do you consider this any sort of issue?

nice---changing the topic (but you're wrong there too). . .

and that the Obama Administration held up announcing the date for the SOTU until they knew if they were going to have a health care bill, or not.

also nice---changing your claim. No. . . you said:

POTUS Obama keeps delaying the State Of The Union Speech until Congress passes a bill that contains the words health care insurance reform.

Not something about Obama delaying announcement of the speech date until he knew whether or not a healthcare bill would pass (something I don't think he knows even now).

Want to bet money he says that he still hasn't given up on passing a healthcare bill in the speech tonight?
(ETA: Just to be clear: I bet he does.)

I didn't say there was anything wrong or outrageous with criticizing liberalism in the JREF political forum.

But you also have yet to explain how criticizing MSNBC translates into hatred of POTUS Obama?

1) Cicero started the thread

2) All Cicero does is bash liberalism.

ergo

3) This thread must be an attempt to bash liberalism.

If Tricky had started this thread, I guarantee no one would think he was criticizing Obama.

Tricky had a difficult time figuring out that MSNBC had a SOTU countdown clock, so the possibility of him starting this thread is rather remote.

Again, you still haven't explained how bashing MSNBC/bashing liberalism = hatred of POTUS Obama.

You are the only person in the country above the age of 9 who doesn't know, or refuses to admit, that POTUS Obama is the head of the Democratic Party

What is the difference between delaying announcing the date of the SOTU and delaying the SOTU?

You are a real riverboat gambler. Of course he will mention health care, but only in the most generalized terms. He isn't going to promise any date for the passage of this bill. Nor will he give any details on how Congress will proceed on this bill.

For what little it's worth, CNN had a countdown clock on when I was flipping through channels earlier, as did CNBC. Fox didn't, but at the time they were talking about the speech and had a box that said what time the speech would be on. HN was on commercial and I didn't care enough to wait for it to end.

I wonder what it's like to find ulterior motives in the most mundane of things...

One is delaying announcing the date of the speech and the other is delaying the speech. You claimed he did the latter, which is false.

I specifically said he would say that he hasn't given up on a healthcare bill passing. It was a direct response to your statement that he delayed announcing the date of the speech until he knew whether or not a healthcare bill would pass.

Criticism of MSNBC = hatred of POTUS Obama? Is this the new liberal math?

My comment made no specific mention of this thread, so the connection between Obama and MSNBC exists only in your fevered imagination.
