"The White House announced Monday afternoon that the president would speak to a joint session of Congress next Wednesday at 9 p.m.

In the televised speech to the nation, Mr. Obama will outline his priorities for the coming year as well as recount what he believes are the achievements from his first year in office. Speech writers have been working on the address for weeks, but the date had not been set, pending the outcome of the health insurance legislation in Congress.

But the White House decided against waiting beyond January for the State of the Union address, which Mr. Obama will use to set the tone for the coming year."

Very Good! Now.. Do you Hate President Obama for deciding to NOT postpone the speech after all? Or that he was thinking about postponing it in the first place?

Hey, at least it won't pre-empt Lost, like they said it wouldn't.

So, until now, you were clueless about the reason for why the SOTU date had not been set by the Obama Administration? I have no hatred for POTUS Obama. Why would I hate him for wanting to be able to at least check-off one campaign promise when he gave his first SOTU? Now he can talk about how he saved America from a fate worse than death by not pre-empting some dopey show.

Since the SOTU will be on every network local and national channel and news cable channel, what exactly is the purpose of this? Does MSNBC think of themselves as Cape Canaveral?

That leaves the only possibility for the purpose of the countdown which is to remind the MSNBC folks i.e., Mitchell, Matthews, Maddow, Olbermann, when to begin genuflecting towards their monitors.

No argument with your self-appraisal. Since you are the target audience for MSNBC, can you explain why they feel the need for countdown clocks to usher in POTUS Obama Suds Summit or the SOTU?

Frankly, this is your fault, Cicero. You have spent most of your time in the forum carving out a conservative "down with democrats" niche. When you criticize MSNBC, people are going to assume you are criticizing liberalism because that's just what you do. In fact that's pretty much ALL you do here. Don't blame them for your reputation.

Cause its more for them than us, whenever Obama makes a speech its a real liberal freakfest over there.

Internally, its a party-countdown. When it hits zero the effete liberals will show off their dance moves and scream and shout in hedonist ecstasy, as lefties are wont to do whenever the sight of Dear Leader graces the screen.
