For the conservative/GOP/Christian males out there, here's a handy-dandy flowchart to assist you.
I see your problem: you hear "family values" and you think that means "family values"
It's actually code for "male privilege". If you substitute "family values" for "male privilege" it suddenly, almost magically becomes internally consistent.
The GOP is obsessed with taking away women's rights. The Democrats are obsessed with preserving them.
Let's cut to the chace. What "right" is the GOP trying to take away?
I saw some yard signs on the way home tonight that said something like "Vote for Values"
And I started thinking, what are my values? And what came into my mind was the old song from catholic church days, "Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me" (I know it's a bible verse, but couldn't tell you which gospel it's in)
I thought about it in the context of the Mourdock/Donnally race for the Senate. What is Dick Mourdock's values? Cut medicare, cut social security, cut spending on everything but the military, cut taxes, but be sure to protect those babies that are the result of rape.
Meanwhile, the attack ads against Joe Donnally paint him as a scary liberal who (gasp) voted for ObamaCare and the massive stimulus package. So Donnally voted to expand our healthcare coverage, and to get money into the system to stimulate the economy. I suspect he also voted for the TARP bailout of automakers, which ultimately saved my hometown from ruin (it went through some really tough times). Oh, he's also anti-abortion, but at least makes exceptions for rape and incest (call him inconsistent if you wish, but it's less oppressive; not perfect, of course, but still better than Mourdock).
So given my values of trying to help others, then the choice is obvious - vote for Donnally.
Seriously, what kind of "values" do you have if they lead you to vote for Dick Mourdock? What do you really value? Is "I want to pay lower taxes" really a value? A lower deficit is REALLY something to value? Is "I got mine, screw you lazy losers" your values? If so, then go ahead, vote for him. But let's just suggest that my values and yours do not agree at all.
Yeah, I'll vote my values, which means I'm voting democrat.
If you only listen to the propaganda from people who want to convince you to be on their side, you will never see the whole picture. And without the whole picture, you will not see the truth.

What about jelly babies *and I'm not talking Dr. Who here.........see: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jelly baby (NSFW) There is more and closer to my point, but it will take a bit as I have to trace to possibly non internetted data going back to the 1920s.......Rick white guys rarely get pregnant.
When I told her, "you know, sex is not a right. [...]"
Bill, I grew up a conservative. I passionately argued for conservative principles in this forum for nearly a decade. No one on this forum can ever say they've seen both sides the way I can. And I still follow conservatives including Safire, Sullivan and Krauthammer among others so spare me your smarmy condescension. Go look in the mirror you are projecting. You listen to too much Left Wing propaganda.
You remind me of the Muslims I chat online with who say the Quran is perfect because the Quran says it is perfect.

Reproductive rights. The right to choose. The right to decide what happens to their bodies.Let's cut to the chace. What "right" is the GOP trying to take away?
I forgot, the right to equal pay.Let's cut to the chace. What "right" is the GOP trying to take away?
When I told her, "you know, sex is not a right.
Did she know how to spell obsessed? That would put her one up on you.I just got a phone call from a Democratic Party volunteer urging me to vote for the Democrats this election.
See was very very very obcessed with abortion, rape, incest and fear.
She stressed that if Republicans got into power, they would shut down Planned Parenthood.
When I told her, "you know, sex is not a right. It is not a fundamental right to have inconsequential sex", she shift gears and took the conversation in a different direction. She used fear. She stressed that the USA would become like Brazil with unwanted children in the streets if the Republicans had their way and abortion would be outlawed. She never explained how magically the Republicans could actually do that. She also was wrong about Brazil. The cause of the street children was not because of abortion laws in Brazil.
But her imagery was very good. She described "citizens walking up to children in Brazil and shooting them because they were not wanted".
She was referring to a historic event in Brazil but she got her facts twisted.
Anyway, I never got a phone call from a Republican volutneer who brouht up rape, abortion or sexual issues.
In a political context, the Republicans have completely hijacked the word "values". To me, using the ordinary definition of "values" would mean that everyone votes their values. Under the Republican hijack, "values" means "traditional family values" which means, in turn, "god, guns and gays"I saw some yard signs on the way home tonight that said something like "Vote for Values"
All we have to do is look at posts regarding the 19th amendment and know that her fears haven't gone nearly far enough should the retarded mentality displayed there prevail. It's them same exact avenue the Taliban travels to get to shooting 14 year old girls because they want to learn to read. You seem to fit in quit well there, well except the whole moosleem thingI just got a phone call from a Democratic Party volunteer urging me to vote for the Democrats this election.
